Fresno State's athletics department is dropping big hints that Saturday's Wisconsin game is the coming-out party for a redesigned mascot.
Associate Athletic Director Paul Ladwig, the department's point man on all things mascot-y, is being coy about whether we're on the verge of TimeOut 3.0. Fine. Let's blow through the lighthearted smokescreen and declare it's a done deal.
So, will the school go back to the baggy-drawered, gray-furred hound that schlepped the sidelines for years? Or will the new TimeOut bear much resemblance to the mascot unveiled last year? You know, the sleek, brown-furred version that many Red Wavers thought looked more like a cat or chipmunk than a dog?
It's surely too late to influence the school's choice, but here's the place to play Mascot Makeover. What would you want the new TimeOut to look like?

This is so simple! They need to go with the original Mascot that we all grew up with and is familiar Nationwide. The new one looks like a cartoon character with a bad case of Plastic Surgery!
we were so disappointed to see the old time out gone what is fresno state thinking the new one is so not fresno state we were always entertained so much by the old time out with his face and his actions the new one looks like his face is froze in time with no expression we are long time fresno state fans please give us back the old time out dont take everything away from us in this day and age give us something that is still humorous and funny looking not one that is trying to be so politcly correct
Bring back the "real" Timeout who went missing last year. He's perfect - don't fix what is not broken. Just add the cooling feature technology inside his body. The brown mascot did NOT look "nifty" as stated in The Bee.
We should all hope that the old T.O. shows up! Why would Fresno State want to change an icon that is associated with it's growing image! This could be an outstanding year in athletics for the school! With the Bulldogs winning the National Championship in Baseball and possibly on their way to great things in Football, Timeout should only remain as a central figure in Bulldog Athletics!
This new "Timeout" is to college mascots what Joan Rivers is to Hollywood. With the half squirrel/cat look. It's another plastic surgery gone terribly wrong. They won't change him except for maybe his color. They want our money, and our approval.. But our opinions? Nope. Mr.Ladwig, please change him back to grey and white. It was arrogant of the AD department to do this change without fan input. Atleast Tilt his brows inward a bit. Atleast make him look like a feisty squirrel/cat thing. Go Bulldogs!
I thought the mascot's name changed last year from "Timeout" to "Victor E." Not so?
Victor E is the name of the real-dog bulldog mascot, Ken. The human-in-a-costume thing is still TimeOut.
My children have grown up loving the OLD Timeout. He was SO much better than most all the other school's mascots. Frankly HE was the best out there. This 'new' version isn't unique or interesting, or 'nifty'. It feels like we got a bad trade. We turned in a diamond for a fake. Time to see if we can cut the losses and get our Timeout back!
It's going to be the old lovable, gray Timeout. Last year's Timeout was an embarrassment with that chipmunk face. But the real question is why Fresno State's administration couldn't simply admit its mistake and admit that the new, brown Timeout looked terrible. They had to coordinate this fake "poll" in which the public votes which Timeout is best. The school was going to return to the old version of Timeout no matter what the "poll" results were. They should've saved their time and money by doing this research before they ever turned the mascot from grey to brown and from dog to chipmunk.
Please bring back the old time out. He looked much more like a competitive tought dog, not the cute little cartoon charachter now. I live in Reno NV and still support the Bulldogs...even when they play NV. Pleawe don't embarass me with a cartoon carachter!
