Roosevelt earned the nod as the top boys soccer team in the Central Section when four section commissioners sat down Sunday to create the brackets for the first SoCal Regional championships.
The Rough Riders, the Central Section Division III champions, earned the No. 3 seed in the SoCal D-I bracket. They were put there because the state playoff system requires teams to compete in their respective divisions based on CBEDS -- California Basic Educational Data System -- school enrollment numbers.
The section D-I champion, Clovis West, also made it into the SoCal D-I bracket as the No. 5 seed, leaving D-I runner-up Bullard out of the mix.
Roosevelt will host No. 6 seed Peninsula-Rolling Hills Estates at Fresno Pacific University. Clovis West will travel to Harbor College in Wilmington, where the Eagles will face No. 4 Banning-Wilmington.
All first-round matches are at 5 p.m. Tuesday, meaning all venues must have lights.
Buchanan earned the No. 3 seed in the D-I girls bracket and will host No. 6 Mayfair-Bellflower under the lights of Clovis High's Lamonica Stadium.
In D-II, the Lindsay boys are seeded third and will host No. 6 Arlington-Riverside while the Tulare girls also are seeded third and will host No. 6 Bishop Montgomery-Torrance.
Two Central Section boys teams made the D-III field in No. 2 Memorial -- vs. No. 7 Animo Leadership-Inglewood -- and No. 8 Avenal -- at No. 1 Oaks Christian-Westlake Village. The No. 3 Central Valley Christian girls host No. 6 Brentwood.
Regional semifinals are at 5 p.m. Thursday, with the higher seeds hosting the matches. Regional finals are Saturday in Downey.
The four sections competing in the regionals are the Central, Los Angeles, San Diego and Southern.
