SCOUTING: Bulldogs break practice

It's interesting to see how much time the coaching staff put into preparing for Saturday's game vs. taking care of administrative duties.

The coaches were scheduled to meet this morning at 8:30 a.m. Meetings back it up to 1:30 p.m. Coach Steve Cleveland had to meet with Betsy Mosher, sr. associate athletics director for administration, and a Nike representative regarding a summer camp. Wwith Bryan Harvey, who is academically ineligible for the spring semester, and Rekalin Sims, dismissed earlier this season for violation of team regulations, including his involvement in an alleged robbery near campus.

I asked Cleveland if scouting was nessasary... Or at least, such a high degree of scouting. Sure, if I was playing, I'd like to know if the guy I'm going to guard likes to drive left more than right, or if he will shoot all open shots on the perimeter. Or if he can't move laterally.

But everything else? Sometimes it seems excess.

But Cleveland's response made sense... it makes the players feel more at ease, and the coaches as well.

Sometimes as a writer, you can take too many notes. Guess it's different as a college basketball coach.
