I don't know exactly where we will go but I guess there have been some talks about the Emerald Nuts Bowl in San Francisco. I would like for us to go there because it's close enough for us to travel and we haven't played there before. Plus I wouldn't have to rent a room because my cousin lives there. I'm cheep.
Other than that I guess going to Hawaii would be nice. We'll see how the fans treat us now that we're not playing the Rainbows. As far as who we play, I don't care. I'm just glade were going to a bowl game.
Yes, a given that Hawaii will play in probably the Sugar Bowl. What everyone doesn't know is that Boise State has a real shot at playing BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl. If true, it leaves 3 bowls open for Fresno State. My prediction is that we play Purdue in the Hawaiian Sheraton Inn Bowl.
I'm so stoked Fresno State gets to play in a meaningless bowl game. Alright! Maybe next year we can lose to Boise again and hope to get in the Chuckchansi Bowl.
Ben,
A date is a date, one day you will understand what that means Grasshopper..Bowl games are like pizza....
Since you want to bring up Boise, how would you like to have one league loss in 2 years and be stuck in a bowl in IDAHO?
If Chuckchansi ever put together a Bowl it could be alot of fun....Think of all the free stuff...The tix to the buffets...awesome promos...Jay Leno tix...
Ben, be happy we are turning this ship around...Be happy we have some big games next year...Be happy Brandstater finally looked like a QB worthy of a Fresno Uniform..
Ben,
Regarding your comment "I'm so stoked Fresno State gets to play in a meaningless bowl game. Alright! Maybe next year we can lose to Boise again and hope to get in the Chuckchansi Bowl." I'm so tired of all the negative fair-weathered so called fans like you in this town. Going to any bowl game is a great achievement and there are going to be 5-6 other teams in the WAC alone who wish they could go to "a meaningless bowl game" as you put it. This years team has turned the program back around with young players and a rash of injuries and the REAL Bulldog fans are proud of them!
I'm tired of hearing negative comments , we just turned a season around in one year.I live down south and get harassed constantly by SC fans and UCLA hopefuls. Our team stikes fear into them because they know on any given day the Bulldogs can beat them .Get on the winning team ,see you at the opener.Go DOGS!
Jon Whitworth,
If your content with mediocrity so be it, that's your thing. I'm not going to welcome the hype Pat Hill spits out on annual basis anymore. Why get excited only to be let down by poor coaching. There I said it, nobody else will. The proof is in the pudding, why do we lose to Boise every year? Do they have better atheletes? No. It comes down to coaching and schemes. If you can't see this than you must have never played or understand the nuances assocaited with this great game. I'm also very jelous that Pat Hill makes $1 Million a year (compared to Peterson at Boise @8 $850K) and really has no pressure to win because guys like you are content with a winning season without beating an opponent with a winning record. This is not a true sports town....winning is not important enough.
Listen Ben. I am not a big Pat Hill fan either. I've said so in blogs earlier this year. I don't know how you can't be happy for the team this year with everything that has been going on. You can't expect a team, that was at one point last season rank 117th, to go to a BCS game this season. It's unrealistic. If you don't like what you see than jump on the USF bandwagon.
You make it seem like you've played before, and if you have than be happy for the guys and not bring in anymore negativity this season. As a player, you must know what they are going through. You don't have to like the coaching staff, but support the team in whatever bowl they go to.
Listen,
The reason we lose to Boise St every year is because Pat Hill doesn't understand that you have to be able to keep teams off balance. You have to be able to have the threat of throwing the ball. Unfortunately the arrogant running the ball 85% of the time does work on the rest of the WAC but won't work on Boise. You have to be willing to take some chances...ie How Sweeney used to open up games with trick plays etc..
That being said. I think Pat Hill is great for Fresno. He is showing signs of making changes. Do you remember what it was like before Pat? No BCS talk. No big dreams of playing #1 teams and taking them down. It was FREEDOM BOWL euphoria...come on man. Pat Hill has set the bar higher than we ever could have dreamed of before. Thats a blessing and a curse. What needs to happen if Fresno and the Central Valley needs to develop in to some TRUE FANS! Win lose or draw we gotta be able to fill Bulldog Stadium on a consistent basis. Pat Hill has his short comings but the man is learning and YOU KNOW WHAT....ANYONE ELSE WOULD HAVE BAILED ON FRESNO WITH THE SUCCESS HE HAS HAD. I'm grateful to have Pat Hill around.
AND I'm proud to be a BULLDOG fan after seeing these guys play balls out every week. Last year was a disgrace..This year restored some pride and tradition! Can't wait to have a full, healthy squad next year!
Ben must be a red seat owner. One of those guys that sits down the whole game. He's right, this isn't a true sports town, and it's due to guys like him. Fresno State needs to give Bulldog Stadium back to the true fans. Lower ticket prices for good seats. I'm so sick of being asked to sit down during a game. Give the red seats to the student section and instead of charging 60 bucks for the lower level seats on the visitor side, replace the bleachers with waist high chainlink barriers.
before Pat Hill Fresno State was considered one step above
Div.11 football...When Fresno State beat USC the school considered it the ultimate disgrace in USC's history to lose to Fresno State...Before the Last football game with USC, The announcers of the game ..Had this to say about Fresno State playing the then number one ranked and undefeated Trojans of USC..No one would be surprised if Fresno State knocked off USC, Because many coaches consider Fresno State as most dangerous football team in America! Now that ladies and gentlmen is respect! Thank you, Mr. Pat Hill (Fresno State fan of 55 years)
Great thanks Bob Myatt! I'm glad you are happy with talk and no action. No wonder you like Pat Hill so much. It's great people talk about it happening, but to actually win is really no big deal. What about the tail spin that followed that game? Oh no big deal, we "almost" beat USC, what good is a conference championship anyway? Football is all about the hype, actually winning.....who really cares!
I agree with the majority of the comments, because this has been a good year. Of course it is extremely disappointing to lose to Hawaii and Boise (again). And, Pat Hill does have some serious flaws and definitely needs to continue to improve. For now, the biggest problem is the predictable play calling (e.g. last night's second half).
But it does not make any sense to only be negative and overlook anything positive. I never hear Pat Hill guaranteeing a win against BCS schools, but he does think we can win. And in the long run, this only helps the school by aligning Fresno St with those larger schools. If you only play WAC programs and other small schools, you are not going to get national attention. It would be silly to deny that such attention boosts recruiting.
There is a difference between bashing the program and making sensible points of criticism. The latter is a good thing. Without it, things would never improve. The former is a waste of time and only indicates your character and not your understanding of football.
Congrats Bulldogs on a good year. Here we come Boise!
I just want you guys to realize that had we beat A&M, and Oregon we would have still been in Boise...Or if we would have beaten one of the top two WAC teams we still would have been in Boise!
WE Need another Bowl tie in game...Benson do your Job!
Beat G-Tech!
Pat Hill has turned the Bulldog program around. Much better dicipline than in years past and he's recruited some fine student athletes. Just want you to know the fans of the Broncos and the people of Boise will be cheering for the WAC representative to win! Go Bulldogs!
