Fresno State looks for fans

Through three games, Fresno State men's basketball games at the Save Mart Center are averaging 10,417 fans in paid attendance; that number counts people whether they show up or not.

If you look at those same three games and estimate how many fans actually showed up, you could slice that number in half, at least.

The Fresno community is taking a wait-and-see approach, despite the basketball team's 4-0 record and the football team's recent losing woes.

Tonight's home game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff may be the answer. I think I'm the only person in the Valley who has 1) heard of the Golden Lions and 2) seen them play before.

Similar games against Winston-Salem State, South Alabama and UC-Irvine did little to attract fans on campus.

The home schedule improves with back-to-back December games against Creighton and Stanford.

If Fresno State's record keeps up, the fans will likely show up.
