Football season finale

Fresno State football won't have a postseason, but it can end strong with a win at San Jose State. Is this final game more important for the coach, the seniors or perhaps the quarterback?

it's nice to see the bulldogs put a win streak together again. Ending the season 5-7 would be great, considering the 1-7 start. It's going to be extremely tough against a much improved San Jose St. team. This game is most important for Tommy more than anyone else. Here is why...

Pat still has time left on his contract and the school will not buy out his contract (not that they really want him to leave). The seniors on this team are mature enough to not let one loss at the end of the season ruin it for them. Plus, the seniors that my get drafted won't have anything hurt their chances with a loss. Those seniors have proven who they are through the course of the past seasons, and any recruiter w/brains will know that. Which leads me to Tom. This means the most for him. Pat has made it clear that he wants Tommy, and the fans have made it clear that they want Sean. So Tom needs to prove that he can beat a good team at the end of a season. Tom still has several years here so he needs this win the most.

I don't think it's more important to any specific group. I think it's most important to the team as a whole and to the fans. If we win this last game against San Jose, it will give the team confidence and the community a little ray of light going into next season.

It's been rough this year, and it would be nice to go out on a four game win streak. Hopefully our fans will take the trip up north and support the team. I would like to but I'm broke as a joke.

By the way, Larry Coker was fired from Miami for having one bad season. Last year they were 10-2 if I heard correctly. Will this set any kind of presidence for coaches who have one bad season? Should Pat Hill be worried? I don't think so. His job is pretty secure here. Just something to chew on.

One more game. Play hard boys.

Pat hill needs the win, from a recruiting standpoint and for his own sanity.
Bulldog players need this game so that they can build on it for next year.
Brandstater needs this win because he hasn't proved anything yet. As far as I can tell he has made one pass the whole year, and that was last week in the final minute of the game.
That guy has missed more available men than a nun.
NO DOGS DOWN!

I went to the "Pillow Bowl" in Logan, Ut. mainly because that's where I live. But I could not help but think of the Dogs loss to USU and if they had won that game they would be playing for a possble bowl invite, but that's neither here or now. Does anyone know about next years recruits? I did hear of a 3 star QB recruit who verbially committed to the Dogs out of Texas, is this true? Any Dog news I could get would be great! Thanks

I was at the 2002 game in San Jose, where it was understood that a win for the Spartans sent them to the Silicon Valley Classic bowl game; a win for Fresno State did the same for us. A very close loss by San Jose St. seemed to take the wind out of their sails for the next several years. Let's hope they don't return the favor to us.

It is fortunate for Bulldog fans that we play four of the worst WAC teams at seasons' end. Even against an improved SJSU squad, these games should always be 'gimmies' for a team like Fresno State, whose coach is always touting a "BCS-or-bust" mantra.

Last year we lost our last 4 games to end the season, leading to a horrible year in 2006. Perhaps this year we can win the last 4 and propel us into a better beginning in 2007. The team stands to win the most with a victory against the Spartans.

As far as we know Jamie, we don't have 3 new QB recruits from Texas. At least it's not in the local media, but maybe I missed something on the news the other night. We do know that the dogs just got a verbal agreement from a good JC Cornerback.

I do know an aquintance who will be trying to play the safety spot. He will be a walk on but he is very explosive. He will need to work on his hips a little bit because he did play linebacker. Hopefully he can be a fill good story as a walk on. Other than that, all is quiet on the western front.

Later folks.

a three star qb out of texas, come on. if four star is the top then a three star won't be that far behind. my point, that three star ain't comin to fsu. he'll go a texas or oklahoma school and play in a high profile conference. we should go after a two star qb to carry the clipboard cause tb is the qb for the next three years. don't believe me, ask the coach. as for sean, it's a shame that you apparently didn't get an equitable shot at being the starting qb except when you were thrown into the meat grinder at LSU. if you have an opportunity to transfer to another div1 program I wouldn't blame you. go
dogs, beat sjsu.

Come on now do you really think Nortan would transfer. I mean why? He's a sophmore that has already used up his redshirt season. If he transfers to another D1 school he has to sit out next year. I don't know about you guys but I don't think he can just walk into a place and just start his senior year.

Didn't a quarterback from ASU transfer to Nebraska this year, where he will have to sit out a year and have only one year of eligibility left? If that's what you've got to do to get a chance to show you can play the game, some people will do it.

But seriously, if there isn't a wide-open, honest competition for the QB job next season, Coach Hill will have some serious explaining to do. I think the fans are getting a bit weary of the "that's just the way I do things" approach.

Pat Hill - You have disrespected us all (fans, players, student body, administration and the city of Fresno). The ending of the season is just desserts for your foolish and arrogant ways. The coaching on all levels was completely ineffective and uninspired. You owe an apology to everyone involved.

I find it inexcusible and incredible that you went through the interview process of seeking talent, offered a scholarship, then allowed a Parade All-American to sit on the bench while you promoted a player having only average to mediocre ability! What a waste of talent (Sean Norton's) -- and scholarship money.

To the departing FSU senior players: No applause here. Coach Hill should have benched you all early on and made you EARN your starting spots. I hope the NFL recruiters made note of your inability to commit to a team effort.

What a disappointment this season, with the exception of Dwayne Wright, who tried to carry the team single-handedly. We can only imagine how good the season might have been, given just a little effort from the others who had talent but withheld using it when it mattered most.

Best of luck to you, Mr. Wright, you outclassed the whole class -- You're THE MAN!

Tommy B. - You have demonstrated nothing that proved you deserved the starter QB position. It's time for deep self-examination. Coach Hill placed too much on your plate; you bought into HIS 'dream'. It's time to wake up to the greater Reality. Would love to see player you are, the one who can contribute to the 'Dogs in other ways... but a QB you ain't.

Sean N. - having been given NO respect or true opportunity by the power(s) that be, you have held your emotions in check and conducted yourself with integrity. There will be no hard feelings held against you should you decide to transfer to another school that approaches its players with fairness and respect -- We wish you only the best, and a REAL opportunity to show your abilities. Good luck!

Stop the Bleeding! Fire Hagen and Brown!! We need to let our fans know that no coaching job is safe along with no starting position on this team!! Yeah right! Hill is clueless and we'll be losers again next year because because his "smashmouth" offense has been too predictable for too long. We've been exposed. Our OL depth is atrocious considering that Hill is an OL coach in nature. Shameful. Just shameful. Don't drink the Kool-Aid!!

SJS DB's have no class, ok they one the first game in 16 years and for the little DB that got ran over by Wright in the first QT. to come out and say that our WR sucks was just out of line. Sat. was a good win for your school and team, but come on let's show a little class and act like your use to winning games.

What happenend to the Bulldog on FSU's helmets this year? Signifigance of the green V?

It has come to this: We are told by OC Hagen that Tom Brandstater is "coming along pretty good," and it takes a self-indulgent Spartan defender--Owens--to tell us what we already know, there is a lack of pride within our Bulldog football team. And I thought last year's prideless loss to LATech would forever be the lowest point of Bulldog Football. Boy, was I wrong.

Seeing our team's lackluster performance in a game with so many huge ramifications yesterday, our coaches' uninspired playcalling and lack of adjustments, amd realizing we are 4 wins in our last 16 games has all added up to a brand new low point.

Imagine, a Spartan calling out a Bulldog for a lack of pride! It all points to the direction of each program.

Mr. Hagen, your Brandstater comments prove you just don't get it, and your history says you never will. Mr. Hill, you have been hiding behind your "BCS-or-bust" mantra for 10 years now; even the most casual observer knows you can't get there if you can't even win out in the weak WAC (Boise St. coaches understands this). Mr. Brandstater, thanks for showing a little humility, and realizing you need to search for some "answers," which may be a fairly large understatement.

We have the highest paid coaches, the best facilities, and the best players in the WAC. Here is a soul-searching question: Why then are we a third-place team, on average, for the last 10 years?

I'm so sick of Pat Hill's decisions this whole year! I mean come on you didn't give Jason Christiansen any chance to snap but kept on keeping Brandstater in when the whole Fresno knew he's not the QB! Norton was put in for the tough LSU, Boise games then that was it. Our problem this year is not special team or Defense,it's the QB. What kind of comment was that by our Offensive Coordinator? It wasn't all his fault? Receivers needed to catch the balls? Come on! All the balls were overthrown or hited the ground! Fire Pat Hill then we'll win again. He's too old school!
