Seriously, Bulldogs football - is it the talent level, on field decisions, morale, coaching, bad karma - is it ... ?

FIRE Dan Brown!!!! This guy is one of the WORST defensive coordinators in 1-A!!!!
When under Pat Hill has FSU had a powerhouse defense?....NEVER... There are TOO many problems with the Bulldogs and they ALL start at the top.
I don't care how long they have known each other, Dan Brown STINKS!!!! He HAS to go!
Our defense is an ABSOLUTE JOKE!
The Baltimore Ravens just fired their offensive coordinator today and they are 4-2 !!!!!...talk about a working for a tough boss.
This is a BUSINESS...and FSU is in the business of LOSING (we average 5 losses EACH year under Pat Hill and Down Brown). It is now at a all-time low.
FIRE DAN BROWN, FIRE THE NEW O. COORDINATOR too!!!
FIRE PAT HILL ....if he refuses to change!!!!!!!!!
As for Norton starting - YES, but he to will fail UNLESS we change the offensive playcalling and PASS more on 1st and 2nd downs. Open up the offense.
Q: Did anyone see Matt Leinart last night vs. the Bears? In the first half, he was crushing the almighty Bears D with short, presise passes (a lot of 1st and 2nd down passes) then James would give them good yards on the ground (1st half ONLY).
The Cardinals lost because they didn't stick with this in the 2nd half, but the point is that this 1st half performance is EXACTLY what FSU NEEDS and CAN do to pou up points. I will NOT say win beacuse the D is just that bad.
Norton WILL NOT be successful UNLESS FSU passes more on 1st and 2nd downs. If you didn't see the 1st half Norton stats vs. Hawaii on 1st and 2nd down plays here they are again:
Norton:
1st down rush attempts: 3 of 11 (27%)
1st down pass attempts: 8 of 11 (72%).. This is what I have been PREACHING all week long... MORE PASSING on 1st down!!!!
2nd down rush attempts: 3 of 7 (42%)
2nd down pass attempts: 4 of 7 (57%)...this is what our offensive stats SHOULD be.
I am so sick and tired of reading the PH jock sniffer posts on this and other sites saying Brandstater did a good job vs. Hawaii. B.S.
Brandstater was 4 of 5 for 79 yards. ONE good pass was for 75 yards so take that away and he was 3 passes for 4 yards!!!!!! THIS SUCKS!!!!
Where was this a good performance? The ONLY reason PH took Brandstater out of the game was because he tweaked his knee! Otherwise, his sorry a** would still have been in that game doing what he does best...NOTHING!
Pat didn't put in Norton because the Bulldogs needed a 'spark'. He went in because TB was hurt.
Don't get me wrong. Brandstater MAY be a good QB, but under the CURRENT offensive scheme and HORRIBLE play calling, Brandstater and Norton will NEVER find out just how good they really are.
Our offensive play calling has us set up for failure. running almost 70% of the time on 1st and 2nd down will ALWAYS put any QB in 3rd and long. (Look at ALL our games this year - these are the facts).
LSU's D is BIG and NASTY. They WILL load 9 in the box almost all night unless we start the passing attack early.
And don't give me the B.S. that Wright lost the Hawaii game for his two fumbles either. (Sure, I'm NOT excusing the sloppy turnovers), but Hawaii took advantage of FSU's passive offense trying to establish the run on 1st and 2nd downs.
I won't even comment on our defense.. they are SO HORRIBLE that my grandmother could put up points on this D.
Again, Pat Hill will NEVER accomplish his unachievable goals at FSU UNTIL HE CHANGES!!!!!
It hasn't worked in ten years and now is at an ALL-TIME low.
Hey Pat, if you don't want to quit FSU yet, at least FIRE your sorry excuse for a D-coordinator and while your at it, fire the O-coordinator as well.
This may be your ONLY chance to rebuild this program. Remember, all your credibility that you built these past ten years IS GONE. You need to start again from scratch. You have SOME decent players that are SO LOST because of POOR coaching. Give your players a chance to be winners again.
Your way HAS NEVER worked.........CHANGE!!!!!!
ACCOUNTABILITY!!! Where's yours Pat Hill?
I love Raven's coach Brian Billick, today he FIRED his offensive coordinator (and friend) Jim Fassel. Listen to this quote from Billick...
"Clearly, in order for us to expand on our 4-2 start, we have to have more offensive productivity," coach Brian Billick said. "It was my opinion going forward, in order to bring about the level of production that we need offensively, to get where we want to go, that I needed to step back in on a day-to-day basis."
Wait, there's more...
The Arizona Cardinals coach Dennis Green ALSO FIRED his offensive coordinator Keith Rowen. Here's Greens' quote:...
"I've known Keith for a long time. I have the utmost respect for him," Green said. "We are not scoring enough points."
What's wrong with this picture when it comes to FSU? Let me tell you...
Pat Hill has NO accountability for his lousy performance as head coach at FSU. If you count loosing five games EVERY year (this is a fact over Pat's 10 years) as being a good coach and accountable, then stop reading now and go back and bury your head in the sand and wish for the 'miracle' dream season when FSU beats every BCS team and goes undefeated.
Billick and Green are pis*ed off and are DOING something about it! How about you Pat Hill? These two coaches have my utter most respect. They have two dangling cantelopes between their legs, Pat Hill has two dried up peas. When are you EVER going to man up Pat Hill.
Your team is pathetic! You have some desent players currently on this 2006 squad. However, they WILL go down as the WORST TEAM EVER IN FSU HISTORY! Why, because Pat Hill has no accountability for the lack of coaching on his staff. Hill continually allows his coaches to 'breeze by' with half-hearted performances by his players, horrible play calling and offensive schemes, and defense packages that NEVER work and HAVEN'T worked at FSU in ten years.
It's the same song-and-dance EVERY SINGLE year. You talk a great game, but NEVER back it up. Enough is Enough. I have been preaching this all year long to the Bulldog faithful. Your way has to go. It hasn't worked and now all your credibility is ERASED.
Pat, I believe that you CAN restore order to this team and bring back that 'tough guy' mantra, however your inability to change is your downfall. No one cares about games we 'almost' won against the USC's of the land -- THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS WINNING.
I am so sick and tired of loosing EVERY year, and five losses a year is TOO many.
Get rid of 'Anyone Anywhere Anytime' it needs to be 'Shut Your Mouth and Just Win'.
Every team and pollsters now laugh at FSU. Your players have given up because their leader IS NOT TOUGH ENOUGH.
Somebody please bring back the 'old' Pat Hill. Pat, you need to change your goals for this program. Be accountable for the misstakes that YOU have allowed this year and start cleaning house NOW.
I am tired of loosing when we COULD be winning!
"LSU didn't necessarily hold up its part, either, to make this ESPN-made matchup must-see TV.
The Tigers, though good, are not considered to be among the nation's elite as in past seasons, such as in 2003 when LSU finished as co-national champion.
The Tigers have lost twice in Southeastern Conference play, perhaps a sign this was the season a mid-major such as Fresno State could beat LSU."
Is this guy kidding me? Look who we lost to, Fla. and Auburn. OK, we stunk it up and turned the ball over too much in Fla but give me a break. It is the SEC, and both teams were ranked higher than LSU.
Ramooooone, get me a news writer that isn't a buffoon....
lets take a step back and think about something here. Marcus McCauley was slated as the 3rd or so best cb in the nation before the season started. He has played very badly and not even had a pick let alone the rest of the team. So yes i agree that the coaching needs to change but the players are not necessarily playing to there full potential and that is not all of the coaches fault. The dogs will be back and they will have a great season someday. obviously its not this year or even next year but it will happen and when it does I know I will be one of the biggest supporters of the team and the program. So FRESNO learn to take your lumps in stride and not just jump off the deep end when we have our first losing season in a long time! GO DOGS!
I love the Dogs! I love our community and Fresno State. That's why it is time to get rid of not only Pat Hill but President Welty, too. Both seem to be completely happy with mediocrate and just enough name recognition to get us into big games-not win. Fresno supports the university as well as any community in the nation...maybe more. I feel as an alumnist and strong supporter of FSU, this town deserves leaders demanding a higher level of performance. They're our top ticket in town for crying out loud!
LSU is the game where it is going to come together for the Fresno Bulldogs. This is a team game. The win doesn't always go to the team with the best players, best coaches, best fans, the best front office.
The fans need to stick with this team, even to the end. Its easy to be on the winning side. The test of mettle comes in adversity. Remeber, FSU Football, next to UC Davis, is truely the embodiment of the student athelete. These other BCS schools prigrams are not for student atheletes. Atheletes yes. Students? Hardly.
Joy in life does not come from being the winner. Joy comes from doing ones best. For the fan, that means staying with the team - to the end.
Any team, Any time, Any place. It is the right slogan to teach life's deeper values. LSU will be a tough game - no fans and lonely. This is when teams come together. You heard it here first - LSU will be the game where its going to come together for the Bulldogs!
After watching Fresno State from afar (Sacramento), I can't tell you how shocked and disappointed I am with this team. I never saw a Jim Sweeney coached team look this terrible or look this unprepared.
Hindsight is always 20-20, but Fresno State at one time had a chance to hire Jeff Tedford as head coach. Welty should have pulled that trigger. We'll never get Tedford back now. He's long gone, and will soon be able to choose his coaching destination in the NFL.
What's happening to Fresno State this year is just sad to watch. I only hope it doesn't hurt recruiting efforts.
well at the start of the year and i seen Fresno state at LSU! thought to myself this game i must go to it be chance to visit there for the first time and also see a great game!! well i got 4 tickets and three of my friends is not going so anybody out there who needs tickets i got them 3 left!!
I know, I said I was not going to post again. But here I am... because a Bulldog fan is solid. A true fan is passionate in what he believes... And, won't give up the fight easily.
I believe in the Players we have. They have all the skills that's needed. For whatever reason -- and I do believe it IS coaching-related, they have become derailed and disorganized. Let's get the team back to basics.
What I'd like to tell them: If you're pi$$'d at the coaches and/or the way the program's being run, for God's sake, don't take it out on yourselves or your teammates... You need to be accountable for what YOU do. It's what YOU bring to the table that counts.
It's time to REMEMBER what brought you to FSU originally:
(1) YOU ARE A FOOTBALL PLAYER!
(2) YOU LOVE THE GAME!
Get fired up -- It's time to reclaim the JOY you found in playing football, and it's time to free up the SPIRIT that brings success.
Come on, 'Dogs! You already know what to do -- you've had years of training. Its second nature for most of you. So step up to the line guys, and let the GOOD times begin!
Now that there's a new leader at the helm (Norton), the future is looking brighter already!
Wishing the very BEST for the whole TEAM on Saturday.
Go 'Dogs!!! - The rest will take care of itself.
Since 1980, I have been going to FSU (season ticket holder) football games. I've seen alot of Bulldog football; the bad and the good. As an alumis 84'.
Fresno State football is big business. I've seen good headcoaches and bad ones. Like a CEO of a business; what have you done for me lately? 2006 season? not what you did prior years. Pat, as the CEO of this business. You could have been fired last year for the finish you had (0-5)or at best(given) a one contract with an option by President Welty.
He chose five years? What a BIG mistake he made. He will go down too. I give you credit for running a clean program, but that does not win football games does it?
Pat, your biggest problem is you are too loyal to a fault. Your marriage to Dan Brown; WILL COST YOU YOUR JOB, IF YOU DO NOT CUT HIM LOOSE (NOW).. Ravens & Cardinals.
OUR defense?, our NO-defense... poor tackling, no-adjustments,etc. 3rd and long...1st down! GREAT TACKLING TEAMS IN THE PAST NFL PRACTICED TACLKING EVERY WEEK DURING THE WHOLE SEASON. JUST A TIP!!!
Our offense is, run,run on 1st & 2nd down... 3rd and long pass. My 11 year old daughter can come up with a better game plan. Throw deep on 1st down or 2nd..get a flag?
There are great asistance coaches (Boise State, USC, CAL, Auburn, LSU, Texas out there that President Welty can get OVERS on his mistake from 11 years ago when he did not hire Tedford.
Pat, you can fire and hire as the CEO of Fresno State football. You should look for a moving company sooner then later, because someone like the Raiders may still want to hire you since you are a GREAT HC.
Please make changes... So that I can renewal my tickets in 2007.

Never give up!
Pat Hill is a good coach and we need to support the program and keep it going under his direction..Even some of our favorite PRO teams have fallen of late..For the non supporters of Pat Hill and the Bulldogs take a closer look at NCAA Football. Over the past five to ten seasons many outstanding programs have had their bad seasons, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas, UCLA, Texas A&M, just to mention a few of the popular programs. Some of these programs are finally coming back. Our Bulldogs will be back. "Go Bulldogs and Pat Hill".
There are no people happier about the FSU Bulldogs struggles this year than us Hawai'i Warrior fans. It's allowed our team to dish out some serious payback from 2004.We are always proud of our warriors, but we respect the Bulldogs because they've earned it.Coach Hill always has a tough, physical team that fans in Hawai'i always appreciate. So the dogs are having a tough year. With coach Hill, they'll be back, and we here in Hawai'i will be waiting to "dog" on them, but we'll be respecting them.
Speaking of PRO teams...anybody out there noticed that some of Pat Hill's past players are PLAYERS in the NFL? He has mentored a good number of starting quarterbacks and the number of faces saying "Fresno State" as they are profiled as starters on major sport networks is huge. Pat had a chance to leave during the last off-season and didn't.
So on to the task at hand; finding the correct mix in the inventory of players to get some wins. Am I the only one who has noticed that the change due to injuries in the O line is a factor? Offensive strategy has got to change accordingly. That means a QB that can run (roll-out)from the encroaching defense. It also means shorter passing routes (slants to tight ends or backs) or faster receivers to complete routes in time for the QB to deliver. It also means outside running; not a dash into the hands of the afore mentioned defense.
Any deficiencies noted on the D line? Smaller and faster does not always work. But what FSU has lacked in past years in this area has been made up by the famous "smash-mouth" style. WHERE ARE THE HARD HITTERS? Only two of what my son called "slobber knockers" when he played highschool ball occured last game. Give me a five or even fifteen yard penalty that results in a reciever having second thoughts over a five yarder for lack of concentration on the snap any day.
Bottom line... no one interviewed on TV or by the Bee seems to know what the problem is. The problem is all of them. Coaches - pay attention to the whole picture and make changes sooner than later. Players - stop being the "hittees" and become "hitters." THIS is historic smash-mouth Bulldog Football loved by fans everywhere.
I don't understand why all you Fresno fans are complaining about your coach. You played a team that has been in the top five in the nation in recruiting for the last 3 to 4 years. LSU's talent is among the best in the nation. Your team fought hard and never gave up. Nobody scores on this LSU team unless our team gives them points (example LSU Florida game).
All the LSU fans called into the post game show last night complimenting the Fresno coach and how he outcoached us for most of the game. We think the only reason we won is because of our NFL talent and speed at the skilled positions. Your QB Norton is better than most of the QB's in the SEC. The last time we said this was when Ben Rothelsberger came with Miami of Ohio to play LSU. We all said "He is better than our QB and most of the SEC QB's." Your team almost blocked two of our punts because of this new punt formation our coach implemented that he copied from Florida. Florida blocked one of our punts getting a TD because of it. Auburn blocked one of Florida's punts in it and that turned out to be the difference in the Florida Auburn game. Your punter may have had some bad punts, but your team did not have any dumb formations, etc.
I recommend you get behind your coach and create a positive attitude about your program so recruits will want to come there. Recruits want to go to a school where all the people back the coach.
Pat,
I have read the comments that others have read here. Some are said not so nicely and some with more tact. But the one thig I must say is that most of them are correct. Most of them give good points. Now I have never coached at the college level but a considerable time at the High school level and you need to listen to these comments. They are put up by avid Bulldogs fans like myself that are tired of hearing one thing and seeing anouther result. Our program has not taken a step or two back. Almost every phase of the game on offense, defense and special teams is hurtiing.
I don't see that the recruiting is doing the job esspecially at the skilled possitions. I realize that you have lost some of the coaches and players that have helped you work the program to the point into what it has become. Most of us would like to see more of a wide open office that is willing to take risks and go for the jugular as the other teams do that get into the BCS rankings.
Wake up Pat... get over yourself, get ride of your pride and make some of the changes that WE all know need to me made. We can know longer take the 3 downs in a cloud of dust mentality. We want to have as sucsessfull a program as I know that you do. Just get the job done, for the program for the fans and then for yourself.

I think that all of these so called "True Bulldog Fans" need to stop being so down on the football program and the team and it's coaches. If you are a True Bulldog Fan, you don't kick your team when they are down, this is where they need your support, now more than ever. That tells me that you will support the team as long as they are winning football games and as soon as they go on a losing streak, you want to talk badly about them, that's not a true fan.
Hey guys, I just wanted to drop a line and thank the FSU fans who made the trip to Red Stick (Baton Rouge). It was unfortunate that the rains came, it robbed you guys of a "REAL" Tiger Stadium experience. I think you guys have a pretty talented team there in Fresno. As I discussed with one of your fans yesterday, your team is only a few bad breaks, during crucial times, from having a pretty good season. I think you guys are the second best team we at LSU have faced this year, I feel you are a more talented team than Florida. I think yall have the right man in charge there with Coach Hill, just hang in there and things will work themselves out. I live about 20 miles from Louisiana Tech and will more than likely be at that game when yall come back to Louisiana. Good luck to yall with the rest of your season and "Geaux Tigers".
We came close to a pass interception, We came close on tackling the runner, we came close to sacking the QB. Do I need to remind any or everyone that "close only in hand- grenades and horseshoes. Do we have in our current crop of linebackers and defensive backs the caliber of players we have had in the past? Since I am in Italy at present and can not watch the games, I have to depend on the sports writers and others who contribute to the blog to tell me about the quality or lack of in our current group. If we don't have the caliber of DB's and LB's as in the past then this a direct reflection on the FSU coaching staff's recruiting ability. To paraphase Coach Hill, shut up and recruit somebody, maybe a bunch of somebodies. Enough of that, now guys, quit listening to the negative stuff said about the coaches and that these last few games are learning experiences to help next year. In my mind, next year begins on October 28 in Boise, Idaho. So tighten up your chinstrap, cinch up your cleates, tighten down your shoulderpads and play some fashioned FRESNO STATE FOOTBALL. Remember the team nickname is "Battling Bulldogs". GO DOGS
i want to point out something to the fans out there. look at your self, look deep, and ask your self are you a fresno st. fan? or are you a pat hill fan?
see, the people that want to get rid of Pat Hill. are true fresno st. football fans. because they love the dogs and want to see them do well. Pat Hill is a good coach but right now he's not doing everything in his power to give the dogs a chance to win. "FIRE DAN BROWN"
however, pat did make one change we all though he should have done along time ago and that is the change in QB. on the start of the season pat should have known that sean was a better QB then Tom. but still stuck with tom and lost every game except the first one thanks to D wright. look at the dogs now(1-6), because of pat's bigiest mistake at QB and didn't change anything game after game. just think what the record would be if sean was the starter 4-3 or maybe 5-2. thats why the true fresno st. fan is so mad at pat.
"coaches come and go but the bulldogs will always be here."
remember that pat hill lovers.
