The extra pass

"One more time" is a phrase used by this year's basketball team to remind players to make the extra pass. Conventional thinking is that the extra pass will reach an open player.

The first few minutes of practice is spent with players penetrating to the rim from one baseline, passing under the rim to the other wing, kicking it back to the top of the key and so on.

Players have bought into this new philosophy, one season after the Bulldogs converted just over 35% of their 3-pointers, an average of 9.5 per game.

Senior Ja'Vance Coleman made nearly 39% of his shots beyond the line. Quinton Hosley converted 34%.

Now add Hector Hernandez, a quick-shooting Eddie Miller and Dominic McGuire in the lineup, and you've got five guys on the court that can all score from the outside. Try matching up against that lineup in the final minutes of the half.
