Who knew?

Classic email today from a reader in Wisconsin, who wanted to correct me on something from my Sunday column.

I began the piece with this line: "Finding an amateur dressage spectator is like looking for a doctorate of molecular physics at a Judas Priest concert. Good luck."

You might be wondering what dressage is. It doesn't matter what dressage is. It's a horse-riding competition that is exactly like ice dancing, except there is almost no ice. And no dancing. Other than that, exactly the same.

It's taken me 15 minutes to find a decent picture on the web, but here ya go. Also, you should know, there's a website called Ultimatedressage.com, which would really be funny if you knew what dressage was. It's like saying ULTIMATE NAPPING.

In case you were wondering, I just used the monster-truck-rally voice there. The monster-truck-rally voice always goes in all caps. You know the one. This SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY! COME ON DOWN TO SEE HIGH-FLYING, MONSTER-TRUCK ACTION! WE'LL SELL YOU THE WHOLE SEAT, BUT YOU'LL ONLY NEED THE EEEEEEEEEDGE!

So anyway, I get this email today ...

Hey Matt,

Your odds of finding a “doctorate of molecular physics at a Judas Priest concert” are likely better than you think. My doctorate is in plant molecular genetics, and I’ve been to a Judas Priest concert. I happen to know a couple of profs in physics here at UWL who are metal junkies ...

That's right, moms and dads. You're paying thousands of dollars so your kids can learn plant molecular genetics from metal heads. Or is it ULTIMATE plant molecular genetics?

Ok...what is more surpising...the metal head with the Ph.D. or that you have a reader in Wisconsin?

Normally, I would say it's a toss-up, but I came to Fresno from Wisconsin. So I cheated.

Some columnists try to get new readers. I just bring my old ones. God bless all 23 of them.

Ahh...that makes sense. That is kinda cheating, but we'll let it slide.
