I'm on a serious losing streak.
Here are the last four events, as seen, live and in-person ...
March 11 - Went to Selland Arena here in beautiful downtown Fresno to write about the Fresno City men's basketball team playing in the state semifinal. The Rams were a great 3-point shooting team with great guards.
Result: The Rams couldn't have shot a 3 into one of those blow-up backyard kiddie pools, and the guards played awful. They lost to Fullerton College.
March 18 - Drove to Sacramento to write about the Clovis West boys basketball team in the D-I state championship.
Result: Clovis West lost a close game to De La Salle after everyone on the team but the two best players managed just seven total points.
March 21 - Went to see a great, local pitching matchup, Bullard High School lefty, Jon Harmston, against Edison righty, Jared Thompson. They had played soccer together as youngsters, and their baseball teams had played many times, but this was the first time the two seniors had pitched against each other.
Result: Neither team could score more than a run through seven innings, on a cold, miserable day, and neither player got a win or loss.
March 25 - Headed to Visalia to watch the first Fresno State football spring scrimmage and write about freshman quarterback Ryan Colburn. The scrimmage was at Central Valley Christian, where Colburn went to high school. How many people get to play college quarterback on their high school field?
Result: On a dank, drizzly day, Colburn had two balls slip out of his hand as he threw, fumbled a snap and couldn't get his running back to go the right direction. Either that or Colburn was turning the wrong direction, because a few of their hand-offs were, ummm, creative.
So I'm officially a curse. If I come to write about you, nothing good will happen. People are going to start assuming I only write about people screwing up. At least no one's gotten hurt yet.
Maybe I can get work as a cooler at a Vegas casino.

Please don't attend any Clovis High track meets! You might jinx my step-son.
