Obama for president

OBAMA.jpgFrom our editorial today:

The litany of serious problems facing this country is as long as it has been in 70 years: the collapse of financial institutions, spiraling national debt, rising unemployment, a dysfunctional health care system, crumbling infrastructure, a failed energy policy and porous borders. And we're fighting two wars.

What we've been doing isn't working. America needs a powerful dose of change, and The Bee believes that Barack Obama is the presidential candidate who can deliver it.

and:

John McCain has served his country with extraordinary courage and dedication. But he is, in many ways, a figure out of the past, the Cold Warrior out of time and out of touch. The world has turned since McCain began his long service, and he hasn't kept pace. It is time for change, and Barack Obama is the candidate better suited to guide the United States into this troubled new century.

Well I agree......but I think I'll put on a helmet because the Sh** is going to fly now. Not that I think your endorsement surprises anyone on the right. It's certainly the thinking of the majority of the country.

Any Republicans not voting for McCain, and why?

Senator Obama's political life has become an open book. The unknown quantity in
the equation is the Palin factor. So I researched it to the best of my ability. The
Palins come across as considering themselves above the law. Todd Palin is known
to be involved in his wife's work in the Alaska statehouse. Todd Palin is known to
go after lawmakers who disagree with his wife's official business. The Palins scare
me.

Let us say that Senator Mc Cain wins, and the aging president decides to resign
and hand the country over to the Palins. That is one super scary scenario to consider. And why had such a controversial running mate been chosen for the aging Mc Cain.

Governor Sarah may be pretty, cute and funny, but the Palins' politics are anything
but from what I could gather from the pro and the anti info in the search engines.
And that could very well be the reason why many Republicans won't vote for Senator Mc Cain.

It is my personal believe that this time round the American voter is between a
rock and a hard place. But Senator Biden takes some of the scariness out for
me.

The Bee’s Obama endorsement was predictable! I should be surprised, but I’m not!

Let me summerize the Bee’s endorsement (for the benefit of those who have a hard time deciphering lib-speak): Obama is really, really cool and sounds really, really good: And the other guy, well, he’s just too old!

Where would the world be today if the UK had not taken Winston Churchill to heart and let him deal with the serious problems facing during WWII?

Our love affair with youth makes us discount Senator McCain due to his age, he is too old, out of touch, past prime, too much a figure of the past......so some will have us believe.

How very sad indeed. More sad that folks want to believe that Senator McCain will die or burn out and hand over the government to Governor Palin..............So bloody hard to believe that McCain might well live a longer life?

BTW, in all of this election "mess" - Where has Hillary & Bill been? Anybody heard from them recently? It seems to me that every other so-called "loyal" Democrat is out trying to make the Messiah’s case.

Another couple we have not heard one word from - William Ayers and Bernadine Dorn. You would think that such previously vocal individuals would want to clarify "the issues." Who has got them on ice?

Isabell:

It's not the Palins that we ought to be worried about.

See Michael Barone's most recent column:

http://washingtontimes.com/news/2008/oct/13/the-coming-thugocracy/print/

Mr. Minick
Say what you must, however I take comfort in knowing that the average American voter awaits proof that a real bee possesses the capacity to maintain a single belief, much less yours.

Age may be a factor in determining a candidates viability, as well as health, why not?

Look at Ronald Reagan, I think the last years of his Presidency was spent naping.

Arguably his alzheimers may have been setting in as well.

TC

Clinton was just out campaigning for Obama yesterday.

The Clintons have been enjoying a much deserved vacation. Wouldn't anyone else after the last year they've been through? They're back now campaigning. It's in the news.

I don't imagine Russ is speaking for the entire Bee without discussing what the rest of the people think?

I think there are many who are going to have to come to grips with the fact that Obama (as it stands right now) is the more popular candidate. That's what a democracy is about. Trust me, it was hard for me to swallow the results of 2000 and 2004. It's our turn now, you've had the last 8 years.

By the way...the Fresno Bee endorsed Bush in 2000.

Adam:

"SCRANTON, PA. —— A little more than three weeks before the fall election, Bill and Hillary Clinton joined together FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THIS CRITICAL PENNSYLVANIA BATTLEGROUND to campaign for their once bitter rival, Barack Obama, at a rally with vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden. ...IF YOU BLINKED, YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED THE FORMER PRESIDENT SHARING A STAGE WITH HIS WIFE AND BIDEN."

Wow, what a rousing endorsement!!

I haven't heard Huckabee or Romney or Bush or any of the others out stumping for McCain TC....what's your point?

As has been suggested, I read the Michael Barone column and appreciated
its argument. And then I researched Michael Barone. He is very conservative
therefore his politics are slanted and his judgment is not clinically detached.
An avowed Communist would probably suggest that I should read Karl Marx,
which I did as part of my education. He is not for me either.

And neither has anything to do with my prudent fear of people with compromised
integrity who hold the power over the fate of a nation and indirectly over my life.
Only fools do not fear the wrongdoing of the mighty and powerful.

God endowed me with a good brain, a fairly long life (so far); with a good education
and plenty of life's experience. In the final analysis; I shall hold my own councils
as to the choice of hard place or rock. So far, my innate instincts have served me
well, because I kept that GOD-given mind, eyes and ears open enough to sort and weigh each side. Mene tekel cum harsis (spelled the proverbial writing on the wall.)

TC

Yeah, it's that damned liberal media with their slant, right?...er, left...er, whatever.

I am curious though. If every other liberal is out making the case, what's it to you if one isn't?

Regarding Ayers: do you think he's not been watching the news? If you were deemed poisonous to a campaign you supported, would you suddenly wrap yourself around it? No one is keeping him on ice but the crazy mob whipping up fear and rage by calling Obama a terrorist.

Oh! Oh! reading my post I noticed that I typed the wrong word...councils.
It should have been holding my own counsels.
Well, I said it's been a long life (and hopefully longer.)

Isabell:

"He is very conservative therefore his politics are slanted and his judgment is not clinically detached."

Cool! Love your style! Can I use the same device - "He is very liberal therefore his politics are slanted and his judgment is not clinically detached" - to dismiss any opinion that I don’t like?

You know me - I’m a conservative and make no bones about it! I would like to believe that I’m a conservative because I’ve looked at both sides and make a determination that truth (or more truth) exists on the side of conservatism. I say this as a convert from liberalism.

It’s important to look at all sides of the issues. I read everything of all political persuasions. (Goodness gracious, I even read the local Maoist propaganda sheet - the Community Alliance newspaper!). When I put "these things" through my "grid - my life-experience - my standards" (and you know what my grid is!), then and only then can I determine what is truth and what is not true.

Any partisan outlook is not clinically detached. That's why they call it partisan.
And I am not going to debate other bloggers' political philosophies in this particular blog.

Right now I am only interested as to where this republic of We the People is heading. And that we shall know soon....Obama/Biden or Mc Cain/Palin. And my personal slant on it has been recorded in my two posts above.

TC I think you described yourself more then just a Conservative in posts past.

I think you described yourself as having strong religious convictions.

When I was a very young and independent boy, I would wander the wooded acres around our mountain cabin alone. In some areas the landscape was dominated by groves of large oak trees. Needless to say, I became very familiar with acorns and was quite comfortable collecting them and other living and nonliving objects to put in my pockets for future use. One more perfectly good early memory polluted forever.

We have weeks till the election and your talking about acorns?

*Scot leans over to see what's in Bart's drink*

I still do not understand the fascination people have with this obscure person named Barack Obama. Who is responsible for elevating this person who has had was a nobody until now to lead this country? He wants to hand out money as if it were candy. Does he plan to increase the printing of money to pay for all he has in mind? How does he plan for this welfare state he talks so much?
I am truly afraid that Obama is not what he purports to be when he speaks to folks. Folks, wake up and realize that all this will cost a bundle and we currently are up to our neck in debt, no thanks to the idiots in Congress.

No one seems to be making note of the fact the Obama IS a Marxist. The red flags are everywhere around him. The bad smell coming from his associations with ACORN, William Ayers, and his Charles Manson loving wife, Bernadet Dor, are simply a national disgrace. He is using ACORN to cheat to win, by registering dead people, felons, non-existant people, and even phony registrations of the Dallas Cowboys football team. They have a long, and current record of this activity. This association is not a past or passing association. He has been with them for 20 years as an organizer, a legal attorney, and as a Senator who funneled nearly a million dollars toward their fraudulent activities. Just like he know about Pastor Jeremiah Wright, he knew and knows what ACORN's mission is... socialism on the way to dictatorship.

Why, at the Fresno Fair, booths neighboring the Democrat booth told me they overheard the Dems registering parolees and felons all week...totally illegal, and a national threat to our democracy.

This is right out of the Karl Marx pocket guide. Why is Isabel voting for BO if she does not like Marxism?

Liberals ingnore the bad smell, and instead visciously attack a beautiful, strong Alaskan family, who loves life, and loves America for all it has stood for from its inception. . . liberty. Socialism is the enemy of liberty. Obama is a confirmed Socialist,if not Marxist, and in my opinion, seeks to overthrow our Constitution for Islamic rule.

Scot I believe that Bart is refering to the corrupt ACORN organization that Obama is connected to and when you think of Bill Ayers...think Timothy McVie,only Ayers and his wife beat the rap.Would you even want to be in the same room with these killers that attacked our country.Extremely poor judgement on Barry's part unless he shares their beliefs about our country...then it makes sense.

I fully understand Bart Turnip's seemingly whimsical post. The triggerword is ACORN. But why let politics spoil sweet childhood memories?

Ms. Lawson
I see you have forgotten the location of two perfectly useful keys.

Albert -

I truly believe you've been mis-educated somewhere along the line. Obama is not offering anything financially unbalanced and has planned many cuts to offset the things he wants to spend on.

I don't know who you plan on voting for, if it's McCain or a third party, but it's not as though the Republican ticket doesn't have a "nobody" on board either.

Redpeach -

Do you have anything to substantiate the claim that Obama is a Marxist Muslim who plans to destroy the Constitution? Are you the ghost of McCarthy?

Is McCain corrupt because he was associated with the Keating Five scandal? Are NASA and the space program corrupt because John Glenn was also involved?

How do you support a man who claimed he would run a clean campaign without attacks suddenly running a campaign that is literally inciting people to hatred? To the point where McCain is defending Obama to his own supporters at rallies and townhalls?

McCain lost sight of the actual issues and decided to whip his supporters into a frenzy to his detriment. Not indicative of good leadership if you ask me.

What's the point of all of this? People are only choosing what their "truths" are by virtue of partisan beliefs. One can set the facts straight but it really makes no difference does it?

Brian, a rousing 8th, and Kumbaya over with Vin Scully.

I really don't understand how anybody can call Obama "obscure." He may have been unknown to most Americans when he gave the keynote address at the DNC in 2004, but if you still think he's obscure, you must have been asleep the last 4 years.

Just look at all the disinformation and propaganda being repeated by Redpeach and others. You don't make up stuff like that about "obscure" people.

RE: Mike D. post Oct 14 10:29
All that I posted is a matter of record. History is a wonderful thing, unless you are a to the death BO supporter like Mike D.

But please, don't take my word for it. Look it up yourself, using legitimate sources, of course. Start by watching this YouTube:

Watch this and pray to God before you vote!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_HZMD97nMw

"Obama is a Marxist" is a "matter of record"?? Do you even know what that term means, Redpeach?

Sean Hannity = "legitimate source."

Really?

Well, at least Hannity uses impeccable sources - like Andy Martin.

Observe: Ms Lawson is being set up to ask:

"...what two useful keys have I forgotten...?"

The answer, more likely than not, has already been formulated.
But I am not going to ask the question. So the mystery, of the forgotten
location of the two very useful keys , will have to remain unsolved. Unless
the answer is itching to get out anyhow. Tsk! Tsk!

The same blogger came to the conclusion that Ms. Lawson "lacks the where-with-all to make even a small bomb." I don't get that either. So; one of us two...blogger or bloggee...is clueless. But a good laugh before a meal is always good for the digestion...right?

Bart, brevity is good and I love humor, irony and inuendo especially; however, even knowing you and having of inkling of your personality, I'm having trouble with the key comment. From a gal who is a slave to her own curiosity, please illucidate me.

Oh so now the Palins are scary certainly not more scary than Obamas crazy connections. If the Bee was producing more news than endorsements their readership and subscriptions might not be in the toilet. A great portion of the paper is a total waste of trees. Endorse your candidates ok but don't try to portray that yours is the only way.

Ms. Krage you are in my view correct. Trains are hot here.

Izzy and Kay-T...Bart's name is Turnipseed and Dizzy called him Bart Turnip's thus the mystery of the missing keys is solved...they are E and D. Feel free to pay attention at any time.

Brian how sweet you are to set me straight and silly of me to have not understood something so very important. Next time let Bart answer for himself sweetheart. He speaks like a gentleman and does not feel the need for every communication to contain a put down. I apologize for suffering you with my ignorance. Let me make up for it. Let’s ponder these gems…

There is the Asian proverb that “Arrogance diminishes wisdom.”

John Abbott wrote: “'How do you know so much about everything?' was asked of a very wise and intelligent man; and the answer was 'By never being afraid or ashamed to ask questions as to anything of which I was ignorant.”

Well I mailed my absentee ballot. I won't try to tell you how much I enjoyed putting the High Speed Train back in the roundhouse.
I know Mr. Murray fears that I might throw the presidential race if I reveal who I voted for, so for him I won't. But I can report that there are other races in which I voted Republican. I did not hesitate to vote in support of Congressman Nunes (21st District) and State Assembly Leader Villines (29 Assembly District). Both are doing a stellar job and they deserve your vote as well.

Well, Bart, your votes are your own business, but I'm guessing that your "independent" choices in the partisan contests all had an (R) after their names.

Since every word I post seems to come under attack by Brian Murray, redpeach
and/or Bart Tutnipseed, I have decided to forestall that name-calling by using material and information I gather from reputable news media and internet search engines.

"Palin casts herself as Washington outsider
How about her association with a sessesionist party in Alaska. It's fair to ask where her loyalties are."

My personal question now is; secede from what? Since Alaska is a US state; the only logical answer would be to secede from the United States. As governor of Alaska
she had to swear to uphold the Constitution of the United States (which does not include secession from the Union.)

The point is that the Palins' political past is as checkered as Obama's.

Having watched the debate last night did not induce me to find Senator Obama
more sympatico. But Senator Mc Cain, for ever grinning like Carroll's overfed Cheshire Cat, is starting to annoy me. Intelligent criteria for choosing a president? I must be getting "girly" in my old days.

Bart...thank you for your discretion.I also did not intend to pre-empt your explanation of "The Missing Keys" I apologize...I have been paying attention. Kay-T...you seem to also suffer from Dizzyitis(the need to use others' quotes and words to make psychosis seem rational).Does anyone remember who The Bee supported in the primaries? John Edwards and John McCain. Now they love Obama.Need I say more as to the integrity of the Editorial Board(and then there were two?).

BM - Thank you for your response. You are an excellent example of my argument on the "bickering blog"; when someone makes a good point, that is hard to refute, it is followed by name calling as a diversionary tactic to evade the uncomfortable truth. Why reinvent the wheel darlin'; those quotes said exactly the points I wanted to get across. Apparently they hit their mark. Besides if I used my own words on you, I'd get kicked off the blog.

Isabell, BM puts me in the same class with you. I am truly honored. If you people only knew her you too would be impressed.

BM- changing one's mind does not necessarily mean a lack of integrity, it is also indicative of someone who is willing to learn, grow and admit when they are wrong. Much preferable than those who blindly follow tired old arguments and perceptions and call it integrity.

changing one's mind does not necessarily mean a lack of integrity, it is also indicative of someone who is willing to learn, grow and admit when they are wrong. Much preferable than those who blindly follow tired old arguments and perceptions and call it integrity.

Well spoken Kim.

In the secind debate it was Obama with the Cheshire Cat smile and huge flare of arrogance. I thought they both did well last night. I just ready for it to be over already I'm sick of all of it.

Kim
Isn't calling Brian Murray a BM, a diversionary tactic that you accuse others of being guilty of?

By the way, we do know Isabell. The difference between you and many of us, is that you have bought into the her over-inflated ego, and eloguant BS, evident in her posts.

Brian Murray's initials are BM. What's so "diversionary" about that?

Mike Dunne is attempting to contrast himself with someone who disagrees with him in his usual friendly manner. In the process he has again simultaneously bruised the personal integrity of another, and himself as well.

Pointing out the obvious fact that Brian Murray's intials are "BM" has "bruised the personal integrity of another"???

You're making even less sense than usual, Bart.

I believe that a compulsive tendency to abbreviate the name of others under the guise of hip or humorous shorthand, or to defend that unwanted cut, is a frequent sign here that some wish to write off an idea by practicing voodoo.

On the otherhand there is an equally disturbing sign to remain at a level of anonymity that all authors named Scot, Rich, adam and Mike D. enjoy while pretending to be completely invested in their own ideas.

Peach pit - Brian Murray calls me KayT, my initials; I suppose I could have used BeeM but it seems silly. I merely used his initials. As for Isabell, speaking to someone on a blog does not mean you know her. She and I have been corresponding off-blog. I have learned about her youth, her parents, her family, her life and still I have only scratched the surface of who she is. People are complex, the sum of their existence can not be based solely on blog posts. I don't treat you nor Brian Murray that way either. If I judged you two only on your posts, I would have written you off long ago. I am impressed with many on this blog, many of which don't agree with me on most things, some do, some obviously even dislike me. Even then I don't write people off as easily as you do.

Kay-T(the nickname given to a good friend with the same initials)...one can choose to be offended or not.I am not although being called sweetheart and darlin does seem disingenuous and grandmotherly. You are not the first or last,I suppose, to call me BM. My actual nickname is "Brain".Not because I'm more intelligent but because of constant misspelling over the years and it helps people I meet to remember my name.It really works. One question...Exactly what part of Isabell's surface have you been scratching?Back to the original blog...all the media news does look good for Obama as of this post so one could say "The odds are good...but the goods are odd".

Mr. Murray...10X

Ummmmm...Bart, my name links to a blog that will tell you a whole hell of a lot about me. If you're claiming that I hide in anonymity, you are sorely mistaken.

BeeM - I wasn't offended by your usage of my initials. The bloggers were offended I used yours. I never "called" you BM, redpeach insinuated something bad about it, not me. I suppose he is insinuating bowel movement? big meany? bad man? booger mister? Brian Murray initials are BM are they not? I work with a lot of construction guys that call me sweetheart and darlin'. I have gotten into a habit of calling men, whom I am bantering with, the same to turn the tables for fun. Construction guys consider it friendly. I was treating you casually not being disingenuous; I didn't think you needed to be treated with kidd gloves. You speak to me casually; teasing me about scratching Isabell, about test driving my husband... if you don't want to play just say so. You don't have to get mean about it.

I was unsure about Obama but you, redpeach and lately bart have made me sure of Obama. You keep delivering the same tripe and it reminds me of McCain. Old perspectives, old repetitive arguments... put some sunscreen on those necks of yours guys... I am taking the leap of faith with Obama.

Oooooh Kay-T...how Colin Powellish. Those construction guys probably think you're a jerk with all the fake sweethearts and darlins. If you asked them.Do you call them Babe and Hon also.Grounds for sexual harassment if there wasn't a double standard that phonies like you take advantage of.Trying to make us believe that you weren't an Obama kool-aid drinker till we sent you over the edge...more phonieness. No wonder you and Izzy have so much fun scratching each other.

Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, really Brian you've got to stop. My sides hurt from laughing at you.

Kim...I dealt with gals like you in my previous profession who thought they were cute throwing their sweethearts and darlins around and had to put up with it to keep the work we had with them.I also worked with classy gals who did not disrespect themselves, their spouses and me because they chose to act professional. You know anything about that? It's all about choice. How's your hubby feel about it?

This professionalism of yours... this class that you talk about... is that where you get all your off color jokes about scratching Isabell and calling me a slut? Is that where you get all your defaming comments, judgements and stereotyping from that you dish to all of us? This latest after I referred to you by your initials... I think that since I am so phony and classless I am not worthy of your attention yet you continue to go after me. You are either naive enough that you think your words hurt me or secretly you are in love...

I am a former Bush Supporter and am now putting my faith in Barack Obama. He is truly a once in a generation type of figure, something America desperatly needs. GOBAMA and way to go Bee in backing such a great candidate in Barack Obama.
