Mayor Alan Autry is so popular that the two candidates to succeed him don't want to ruffle his feathers

Mayoral candidates Henry T. Perea and Ashley Swearengin are highly critical of Mayor Alan Autry's administration, but you won't see them blaming him for the problems at City Hall. I explore this apparent inconsistency in the two candidates in my column today. Click here to read it.

In fact, in last week's mayoral debate on fresnobee.com, Perea gave Autry an A-minus for his eight years leading the city and Swearengin gave him an A-plus, as in perfect. That's either grade inflation or the two candidates don't believe all the criticism they've been leveling at City Hall. You can listen to the 71-minute debate between Perea and Swearengin by clicking here.

The candidates say there is much that needs improving at City Hall. One of the first items on both of their lists is the slow permitting process in the planning and development department. Other areas of criticism are the pace of downtown revitalization, the lack of progress on law-enforcement consolidation and job creation, including the inability of the city to have land ready for big companies that might come to Fresno.

Perea and Swearengin just prove they are pragmatic. Both candidates do not want to burn Mayor Autry's bridge.

It would be foolish to have a sitting Mayor work against you. They know Autry would do just that if crossed.

Once one of them is in office I am sure they will tell you how they really feel.

MOI received a telephone call from one named 'David' this AM and he had lots to say.

Firstly, David did not get the use of 'MOI' and secondly he did not like the fact that MOI lets the whole world read his mail. MOI is pedantic! But then, most know that.

David went on to say that he felt the message he got from email sent was that it is all about MOI and not about Ms. Swearengin. MOI told the chap he could join the ever growing crowd that believes that.

David says that Ms. Swearengin has visited Calaveras, although his memory is a bit foggy and may just remember that she was in the neighborhood, somewhere. Given that MOI is a registered Republican, and never received any brochures from the Swearengin effort, find it a bit hard to believe that she walked the road.

MOI told David that he does not have to fear getting any more emails from MOI, or for that matter sending any to Ms. Swearengin. Have removed them from my contact list.

MOI will not be voting for Ms. Swearengin, nor will he vote for DWARF Perea, can MOI write in a name other than??

MOI does not have to wait for either to get into office, the road lived on and the community will not receive any more attention than it does at present. It will remain a 'Tale of Two Cities' and that is very sad indeed.

MOI hopes that the use of MOI drives the chap 'David' up the wall, and will have no fear that our paths will ever cross, MOI will continue to bang on in the manner used so far and if any brilliant folks want to re-think their vote, it is still America and the people still have the power.

MOI listened to podcast(you must really get into the habit my dears) and thinks that with the election being so close for mayor, neither could afford to write off a single vote, what does MOI know? MOI is too busy looking at self in the mirror............
