Sen. Hillary Clinton brought down the house tonight at the Democratic National Convention. Her speech reminded so many of us why we supported her for president. She has spent 35 years fighting for people, and blazed a trail for every woman and young girl in this nation.
There is no question Hillary supports Sen. Obama for president and has called on her delegates to do the same. This election is about more than Obama, Clinton and John McCain. It's about the future of the country we all love.
The gloves definitely came off tonight as virtually every speaker reminded the country that Sen John McCain has voted with President George W. Bush 95% of the time. Signs that read, "McCain is more of the Same" blanketed the convention hall.
We are leaving the Pepsi Center and have plans to attend an event featuring Willie Nelson, a New Democratic Coalition event, and whatever other events that look appealing.
We are joining Ian Weiland, a Hillary delegate from Fresno, tonight. And we all say good night and God bless from Denver!
Background on convention blogger Matt Rogers: He is 27 and a farmer from Kingsburg. He worked on Hillary Clinton's campaign during the primary election campaign, and is one of three Democratic delegates from the 21st Congressional District.
Hillary Clinton's speech was an Abe Lincoln moment. Remember he lost sundry elections before being elected president. I took my daughter in junior high to see Sen. Clinton in October at Fresno High and last Sunday at the UFW convention here because I knew hers is a historical campaign. With her speech last night, Hillary proved what I already knew: she is Presidential material and a party player. I was so proud to be an American and a woman listening to her. One for the herstory books!
What rubbish.......'Saint' Hillary is just pandering to Obama and waiting for her next run for president in 4 years.
I thought her speech was her best work ever--she did what she needed to do and did it in a way that was persuasive and classy.
Patricia, I agree. I thought she did a great job, and she electrified the room like I knew she would. Bill was obviously proud...and that's what he told Luke Russert afterwards.
Good work Matt. Have fun with it!
I must agree with the right's so-called liberal media, Hillary did an excellent job.
Hillary proved why 18,000,000 people stood behind her in the primaries and mourn her campaign. Her speech proved that she has what it takes. What a Lady! Her loyalness accentuates her class!
And yet, we still have the problem of trumping the race card. The polls
show that white, lower income working class is giving Senator Mc Cain
the lead. I, personally, fear that the Democratic party jumped the gun
by two generations. It's crazy to hope that "red neck" America won't
vote in November 2008. I do not like Senator Obama, but I like Senator
Mc Cain less. I believe that dilemma has been cited by an earlier post signed; "Kim."
Can't help but chime in. I thought Hillary did a great job. She set the bar pretty high for Obama's speech. Having said that, she didn't blaze a trail for ME. As a woman, I am always a tad annoyed by this assumption that if only a woman can reach higher heights, so can I. No! I can reach higher heights because I work my butt off.
Good for Hillary. I'm impressed. But she hasn't given me hope in America just because we share the same anatomy. Just had to get that off my chest (pun intended)
And to think Obama didn't have the cajones to select her as a running mate!
The convention is over, and soon the blog shall leave our screens. You, in all probaility shall return to working the good esrth. I did not participate in the blog because my interests are not in organized politics. My background and education let me take flight on the wings of Pegasus...free and unincumbered.
I wish you all the best. And when you reach my age, I am sure that you will be looking back at your glory days, just as I am looking back at the times when I was able to be part of history in the making.
pax vobiscum!
