Gov. Palin has gotten everyone's attention

sarah-palin-1.jpgSen. John McCain could have picked Mitt Romney as his running mate, and the Republican ticket would have played into the Democrats' contention that a McCain presidency would be a "third term" for the Bush Administration. Same old politics from the same old GOP. But McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was an inspired choice from a political perspective.

Consider what we have before us just over two months from Election Day. Sen. Barack Obama, the candidate of change, has an old man as his VP choice, and McCain, the old man in the race, has chosen a woman who has fought for change in her state as his running mate. Talk about turning this race upside down. Big props for McCain being a risk-taking politician.

We'll see how good of a candidate Palin is on the stump over the next several weeks, and whether there's any baggage that could hurt her or McCain. But today, on the eve of the GOP convention in St. Paul, score one big victory for McCain.

This choice threw Hillary Clinton supporters a curve ball. Their party rejected a woman candidate for vice president, and the opposition has embraced a woman for the second spot on their ticket. If gender is important to these voters, score one for the Republicans. Of course, the Clinton supporters want someone who is a woman and a liberal. Palin is a woman and a conservative.

But there were many Clinton supporters who said they'd vote for McCain because of Obama's choice of Sen. Joe Biden for his running mate. That may have been rhetoric of frustrated Democrats at the time, but the selection of Palin could now generate additional votes for McCain out of the Clinton camp.

McCain didn't exactly make this choice for Alaska's whopping three electoral votes. This was an in-your-face selection aimed at Obama's message of change. Game on, now show us what you got, Barack.

This choice also should help McCain with conservatives who have been lukewarm over McCain. Palin, a mother of five, is pro-life. She's an NRA member, a devout Christian and a fiscal conservative. The Alaska Surprise may even help McCain raise money among Republicans who have been reluctant to give to him.

Vice presidential candidates usually aren't major factors in presidential races. Voters are selecting a president and the top of the ticket is what they focus on. But Palin gives the electorate another thing to consider in an historic political year. Joe Biden, the Democrats' VP candidate, doesn't give them much beyond politics as usual.

When Obama speaks of "change," he's talking about something beyond race and gender. What "change" does Palin bring, policy-wise?

It will be interesting, to be sure. McCain has gained a lot of media attention with this pick, but he's also thrown away the experience issue. I'm curious to see if he can throw the "celebrity" label at Obama with a straight face now.

Jim,

I think your analysis is spot on. McCain faces an energized left wing electorate eager to vote Bush out of office, even though he isn't on the ballot. McCain needed to select a fresh face, and he did. Many of the arguments against Palin could be more succesfully made against Obama, who appears to have gotten a very meager bounce from his convention.

Intrigue is what we needed on my side, and we have it. Well done Senator McCain.

"Inspired" would not be the word I would use: "pandering" seems more like it. I believe the U.S. is ready for a woman to serve, but not THIS woman. At least Obama has some experience on a national scale, Palin has none.

Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska, Senator Mc Cains choice for Vice President.
Her many virtues have been listed. All I would be is redundant.
The most interesting pro mentioned is that she is from Alaska.

So! The governor of Alaska is from Alaska. How profound. But the more I am
learning (from educational non-political sources) about her, the more she shall
need my closer scrutiny. In no particular order of category or priority:

1) She is to the Right conservative.
[We had 8 years of them and it did not work out so good.]

2) She is anti Pro-Choice, but very much Pro-Life, and a declared Christian.
(We had quite a few of them too, including the President without benefit
to WE the PEOPLE]

3) She opposes the Federal Government to put the polar bear on the endangered list.
[The endangered carnivore brings hunters to Alaska]

4) She supports hunting wolves from air craft.
[Probably that too brings noble hunters from near and far.]

5) She herself is a hunter.
[Probably to feed her five kiddies; keep them warm in winter.]

6) She supports oil exploration, even that there might be no oil and one
of the last pristine nature reserves would be for ever beyond recovering.
[That her husband works for British Petroleum.... well....draw your own
conclusions]

I won't even list the things that are not provable facts (like the above). She has
been accused of abusing her gubernatorial powers to assist a family member in
a family dispute. So far, to me personally, she is a lot like a Dick Cheney FM;
but she is prettier.

If anyone is tempted to vote for Mc Cain because of the women-angle, I would not
suggest it. I think that has been said already by Michael D in another blog.
We could summarize it that way. Senator Biden made certain that beating up on
wives, violence against women is illegal. But in a Mc Cain/ Palin administration
women would be kept barefoot and pregnant....And that is supposed to be funny!

Governor Palin out-shines Obama on the experience platform, as well as the his claims to be the candidate of change. She doesn't just talk, talk, talk change. Governor Palin has made change, and they have been good changes.

Ironically, the Obama campaign reaction to her selection is to make fun of small-town America. Showing his elitist attitudes, he disreguards that our small towns are the heartbeat of America.

Governor Palin has taken on her own party, and has a substantial list of accomplishments:

* Like Obama, she started her political career as a community organizer, serving as President of the PTA.

* Elected to 4 years on the Wasilla City Council: 1992-1996

* Elected to 6 years as Wasilla City Mayor: 1996-2002

* Elected Governor of Alaska: 2006 to present (term up in 2010)

* As the head of Alaska's National Guard and as the mother of a soldier herself, Governor Palin understands what it takes to lead our nation and she understands the importance of supporting our troops.

She has balanced budgets, and has more executive and legislative experience than Obama. She has taken on corruption within her Republican ranks, and Big Oil, yet understands the need to develop more energy sources. She believes in, and has cut taxes, while improving vital services.

Known in her rights as a Mavericks, she has a record of shaking up the status quo. Two mavericks in the White House--NOW THAT'S CHANGE.

And from what I have heard, her popularity with Alaskans is over the top

Governor Palin as VP is just what the country needs.

Redpeach, Wasilla, AK is about the size of Kerman. Do you think serving on the Kerman City Council is quality training for the chief executive of a nation of 300 million people? You guys are really stretching your credibility trying to compare her experience favorably to Obama's.

First decision by candidate Obama: A well respected, knowldegable, experienced VP.

First decision by candidate McCain: a former city councilmember of a city of 6,500 and governor of a state that is as big as Fresno/Clovis.

Who has the judgement to lead? Who is McCain going to get for Secretary of State...Pee Wee Herman?

This is from the Watchdog!
I think that McCain once again has demonstrated an enormous sense of what the people really want as far as a leader in the White House. It is nice that Hillary Clinton can Claim she was the first female candidate and "first" First Lady to be a candidate for President of the United States. That is a first Democrats will hale for years to come.

But John McCain has taken steps beyond that, by actually making a selection that actually makes a woman a Viable Candidate in the 2008 Election to hold Exeuctive Office. The naysayers who doubt her credentials need to ask theirselves the following question which candidate ever projected a budget to operate a state in the United States? A Govenor does that, which of the two candidates has been commander and chief of the National Guard in their own prospective states? Granted she may not have been a committee member, she was a decisive one woman delegate in the decisions that have to be made running a state the size of Alaska. They think she cannot deal with foreign politics when she has been the Mother to five children? Give me a break, she knows more about politics than Obama and Biden combined. I played Mr. Mom for a short period of time, you are chef, bottle washer, provider and budgeting force behind every decision made in the family. Yes Biden has done that but for six short years to what three children not five.

Give this lady a chance and she just might surprise us all. At least we don't have to worry about her having an affair while in office or shooting a fellow Alaskan Hunter, while on vacation.

At least Palin has run something - a city, a state, having to make a budget.

The only thing Slow Joe Biden has run is his mouth!

Really, realy dumb .... Mike, Scharton!

From the reactions of our leftist blogger friends(insert pig squealing noises here) it looks like the Senator from AZ made a good pick while Obama and Obiden are about as inspiring as cold oatmeal.I think I'll send the Republicans some money now.

She probably grows her own vegetables and wears cotton clothing.

Ah the wolf hunters who shoot from the air. Whether a wolf gets shot from the air or the ground, the object is that the population of wolves remain in balance. Fern fondlers everywhere conveniently ignore the fact that it is hunters who manage game. Hunters and fishers also pay for the opportunity, here in California especially.

Just yesterday there was a piece in the Bee that failed to identify a root (no pun intended) cause for the proliferation of wild pigs in the state. One is that as soon as this species became popular to hunt, the cost of a book of tags, five (I believe) for $7.00 in one increment went to $15.00 per single tag. Now ammunition under the auspices of saving a condor require copper bullets in much of the pig habitat, another forced expense on the backs of hunters. Such unnecessary laws strain the cooperation between enforcement resources and hunters. Based on spontaneous comments I have heard recently, the Ridley Tree Condor Preservation Act may very well be the cause of extinction of that bird.

This law brought to you care of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has infuriated many hunters. And don't take my word for it, ask any state economist how much hunters and fishers contibute to the our economy alone( somewhere in the mid tens of millions.) Well that money is going out of state starting this year. Some of it will be mine.

Governors, like Palin, who understand hunters and value them for the good they provide while participating in a tradition as old as our species are rare. This one will be the next Vice President of the United States of America.

We now know that the selection of a woman who isn't a liberal is "pandering", kind of like everything else the Republicans do: selecting a black Supreme Court justice is "pandering", a Hispanic Attorney General is "pandering".

Liberal reaction to this pick is painfully predictible, framed by their world view that they are intellectually and morally superior, only they can appoint the "right" woman, the "right" minorities, etc., all of who must be appropriately leftist.

In fact - your side didn't have the guts to pick a woman. Remember: your candidate didn't have the guts, because he couldn't stand up to her or Bill, just couldn't deal with that "tension". And just how is the young "community organizer" going to deal with Putin, Chavez, Castro and Ahmadinejad?

Yes, support Obama - he's a REALLY good speaker! Now there is some intellectual depth!

Well, the right finally has a candidate they are excited about. Before the announcement they couldn't say enough bad things about Obama whether they were true or not. Nothing positive about McCain. Now after the announcement they can't say enough good things about Palin. The right is so excited .....just read all of these blogs here about her. They're acting like Bill Clinton with a new good looking intern.

I should probably remind you all, she's not running for President. McCain is still the candidate, and more than once McCain has said:

“The vice president really only has two duties,” McCain said. “One is to cast the tie-breaking vote in the Senate, as you well know. And the other is to inquire daily as to the health of the president.” WSJ story here.

Inquire about the health of the president?! McCain is 72, can't lift his arms over his head and has to continuously keep the skin cancer at bay. At least you would have Palin who everyone seems to think, including me, would be a better president than McCain.

I'm watching Fox News Sunday and McCain keeps saying that Palin has done things like: stood up to the republican party - taken on the republican leaders. McCain also said on the show that the republican party is full of corruption. Why then would anyone vote republican?

McCain may have been a maverick way back when, but he's sucking up to conservatives any way he can now, changing his mind on this and that. Palin is a good pick for the conservatives, because the conservatives aren't excited about John McCain. Palin is a play to get the conservatives back on board and look at you all....it's working.

Nonetheless, McCain is still the candidate for president. Calm down.

I could not care less about Ms Palin's marital fidelity or lack thereof respectively.
She certainly could be in a position to shoot a fellow hunter because she too is a
hunter and member of the American Rifle Association.

I am reasonably certain that Ms Palin did not change diapers or wash bottles.
It is my understanding that the Palins are well off, and therefore have household
servants. I am equally certain that uneducated Aleuts and/or Inuits are not being
paid Union Scale for domestic work. Especially the women.

But I do care a lot about her vigorous support to despoil one of the last American pristine nature conserve. I do care a lot, that for political support, she would deprive the generations yet to come of their rightful heritage. She may be haggling with the Exxon Oil Company. I doubt she did much about British Petroleum, her husband's employer.

I do care a lot about her being willing to bring America's polar bear to extinction
because their protection would get in the way of drilling for oil, and we don't even
know for sure that it is there or how much or how little. We know for sure that
once the fragile Nordic environment had been damaged it would be beyond recovery.

By all means let's give the lady a chance to a happy life, to good health, and
everlasting sunshine on her shoulder. But don't praise her for what she represents in the political arena of America.

But I am here to say that America's children and children's children have a right to
inherit an America that is not , from one end to the other, tainted by crude oil. A homeland in which there is room for the polar bear and all the other creatures unique to Alaska. An America that has not become a subject of picture books and tales of once upon a time.

"...come away Melinda, come in and close the door, the answer lies in yesterday..."

Is that the America we want for our children and children's children. No we don't!
Categorically NO!

This is from the Watchdog!
Not only has Govenor Palin been an accomplished leader. She like all women do it walking backwards. Remember the comments about Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, that Ginger did everything Fred did only backwards. You all have to do it to succeed it is harder for a woman to do anything that a man sets out to do other than to have babies.

It is like a woman dancing backwards and the man dancing forward for them to receive comensurate pay and recognition. Look around today and more women are running larger corporations than ever before, but are they receiving the same compensation packages as their male counterparts? Sometimes you must look beyond politics and to real issues to see what really matters in the world.

Single Mom's step up to the plate when many father's would rather move along and not be responsible and then be totaly irresponsible by making more and more families the mom's and we as taxpayers must support.

My point being, women have always been more mature than men. I personally feel this selection is long overdue. They have more composure regarding their personal sex lives and are the originators of the term abstainance.

You don't have to worry about their sexual desires replacing their moral code. You don't have to worry that their ego will overrun their decisions to work with the other party. Women are the best negotiators and appeasement offerers in the world today. They know when common sense should prevail over nonsence. We trust them to raise our children. But we don't trust them to run our country. Who has their ethics, morals and convictions out of balance?
Our children are our future and just maybe our wives, mothers and daughters are our present.
Everyone is wanting change, if I've learned anything about women in my lifetime, it is that they provoke, accept, provide countenance and deal with change better than anyone else on this planet.

Joseph Biden doesn't have experience in world events, he has traveled on vacations to other countries at tax payers expense, met with a few leaders. But he has never been in a position of dealing face to face with foreign leaders from the perspective of the office that is tasked as the highest office in the land. John McCain although captive has the longest time in a foreign country as any of the candidates running for office and it was during a time of war with that country, as it's prisoner. While being tortured.

Who has a better prospective of torture than John S. McCain himself. Another issue that keeps rearing it's ugly head against our CIA?
Who do you suppose would fight the hardest to deal with torture from the prospective of having been tortured? There is nothing like first hand experience to prepare a person for the discussion.

While Obama was off on his popularity contest in the Middle East. John McCain was back home in a super market stating the cost of gasoline and milk are far to expensive in this nation. That something has to be done about the economy. Obama is a talking candidate and McCain through his years in the Senate has proven he is a doing candidate. What single piece of law has Obama written on his own and gotten through the Senate? Name it, tell me one piece, I'll be waiting.

On a more simplistic note another thing I like about Palin is her husband. Not a politician he leaves that up to her, he has worked on oil rigs, and held many other regular Joe type jobs and maybe for the first time the public will have their opinions heard through him? I would imagine he is more down to earth and connected than say Michelle who worked as an administrator in a Hospital. Have you ever had to deal with those Administrator Types in Hospitals? If so you get my drift they are about as connected to the everyday problems of regular people's lives as Hugh Heffner. Their stature and salary base supersede their understanding.

Oh and another thing I would much rather have a candidate that knew and understood the cost of gasoline and milk than knew how many houses he and his wife Cindy, owned. Did anyone ever think that maybe house number eight might be in the horizon and that is what through him off. Afterall his wife went overseas on a trip to visit and brought him back an adopted daughter. When you have the clout that Cindy McCain has, you are an independant woman capable of making decisions and purchases without consulting your husband. Regardless of how many homes they own together, they can only live in one at a time.

Cindy McCain has worked very hard to get where she is today and I don't think she should be judged or punished for getting there. Isn't this country about the American Dream? Alan Autry was a movie star before he became Mayor, was he punished for his success?

Hmmmmmmmm, Mr. Scharton makes funny with the comment about Secretary of State, this coming from a man responsible for that horrid painting hanging in City Hall, the one depicting a scene from the 'Magic Flute', 'there is a story' in that painting. At least John McCain is open and upfront with his choices not leaving the message cloaked in a painting.

As to most of the Obama camp that loves to bash away, whatever will they do when their man loses the election? Probably all say that the best (man) Saint Hillary would have made a difference.

Talk about sour grapes.

Even Camille Paglia, feminist and supporter of Obama concedes: "We may be seeing the first woman president. As a Democrat, I am reeling .... That was the best political speech I have ever seen delivered by an American woman politician. Palin is as tough as nails..... Good Lord, we had barely 12 hours of Democrat optimism .... It was a stunningly timed piece of PR by the Republicans."

I don't know which women Watchdog was watching, but not all women who succeed are doing it by "walking backwards".

Women who are free of personal ambition and free of inflated ego, who get involved with humanitarian endeavors are doing it straightforward, with dedication, perseverance and, above all, free of gender hang-ups.

We, the women who are free of personal ambition and free of inflated egos craving the limelight, we do our jobs, our mission, or what ever it may be, without fanfare and without expectations of reward, not even an expectation for recognition.

And when the job is done, we step back into obscurity, basking in the satisfaction of MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Sometimes we don't succeed. Win a few; lose a few. No harm done.

With respect from the Watchdog!

Don't you recognize a compliment when you see one, I am on your side. Women do however, still have to do it backwards in order to get it done and to appease some of the men still holding out and refusing to recognize their talents.
My comments were all meant in a complimentary way, yes there are the direct to the point women but those you claim who as you said; "We, the women who are free of personal ambition and free of inflated egos craving the limelight, we do our jobs, our mission, or what ever it may be, without fanfare and without expectations of reward, not even an expectation for recognition.

And when the job is done, we step back into obscurity, basking in the satisfaction of MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!"

Don't be so independant you can't recognize a compliment when you see one. (Please)

I've admired women ever since I met the first one in my life and have grown to love many more since then. They are articulate, intelligent, ambitious, beautiful creaters who know more about life and living than the average man will ever learn.

Good luck on your endeavors.

Obama's national experence has primarily been established and recored for posterity by making speaches without any meat. (where's Clara Peller when you need her?) Making up for it by eating burgers and BBQ across America. Last but far from least, avoiding one on one town hall meetings with John McCain. The GOP nominee for President even offered to pay for the plane and split the gas. Now,that would be a real taste of national experience verses picking pork out of your teeth!

The Watchdog Says!

The reference is to Govenor Palin not City Councilwoman Palin in this article. A state has much more responsibility. But when it comes to small communities often times it is more difficult to get things done. Because everyone knows everyone and the first thing out the gate is someone gets their personal feelings hurt.

Alaska has a population of 670,000 people and a land mass of over 2,000 square miles. Somewhat larger in population and area than Kerman, I would say.

She has a 17 year old pregnant daughter, wippee, have you read the statistics on teen pregnancy rates in Kings County and for that matter in the valley? You might be shocked at the results. All this proves is possibly she has a normal family with normal behavior which is connected to the majority rather than some rich minority.

As a Govenor she has to approve a budget, she is as I've mentioned before in charge of the National Guard. She has the responsibility to react to declared emergencies in a vast and open space where anything could and does happen. Granted 670,000 may seem small to California's 35 million but California is the weird duck. Not many states in the United States have our dense population.

Give the lady credit where it is due, she is the Govenor of the State we are bloggers in a newpaper. She did what she sat out to do, many here want to now insult her intelligence and knock her down for achieving her goals. What sense does that make, certainly you are entitled to your opinion but then so is she.

Isabell,

I challenge you, go one week without using any crude oil. That means no electricity for AC, lights, hairdryer, etc. It takes oil to generate electricity you know. No car trips anywhere either. And no using running water for dishes, laundry, irrigation, or otherwise. None of these are possible without oil. And no using the computer, or internet, or blogging...oh dear.

And forget buying food at the grocery store, or anything else for that matter, especially anything plastic. All these take oil to produce. So all manufactured products are pretty much off-limits.

Guess you better start digging that hole in the back yard for your new outhouse. Indoor plumbing takes oil to exist.

You make alot of noise how oil is the evil of the planet, yet, like everyone else, you live a life completely dependant on the stuff, and have no solutions to this problem. Face it, we are many decades away from not needing to use the stuff to live our lives.

Until then, we have to face reality, and develop our own oil resources (like every other nation on the planet is doing), while we work on new alternative sources that can feasibly supply, or at least suppliment our energy needs.

Governor Palin has shown leadership and strength in dealing with the oil industry in Alaska, going after corruption, and increasing returns on oil to all Alaskans. Her family history in the fishing industry also says to me she has an understanding that environmental protection is needed to maintain these industries.

Your aggressive, and unfounded criticism of Palin is revealing that the Democrat agenda is not about equality of the sexes, or otherwise. It is about furthering the leftwing, socialist, and communist agenda.

JAWOHL Herr pinkfruit, or whatever!!!!!!!!!!

I've never understood that "all or nothing" reasoning. Either drill everywhere, or abstain from petroleum entirely? Where is the logic in that?

It is an undeniable fact that we still need oil in our modern economy. It is also an undeniable fact that there is a finite supply of the stuff (unless you think it's continually regenerating itself - if so, I'd like to see evidence of that).

Put those facts together, and the reasonable response is not to drill everywhere so we can burn as much as possible as quickly as we can. Rather, it is to conserve, use less, and work on developing alternative energy sources, so that there will still be some oil left for our children and grandchildren.

I have no explanation for blogger "redpeach's" near psychotic dislike for every
word I am posting. But unlike his (I presume redpeach is a man) opinion, I am
politically very astute.

It is not the "Democrats or Liberals" who are exploiting Sarah Palin's family life.
But its they, the Republicans themselves because of the governor of Alaska's attributes which are becoming public knowledge in increasing quantity, diversionary tactics are surely needed.

Those who supported Hillary Clinton are not of the same political philosophy
then the Governor of Alaska. And that is a fact; ineradicably.

And actually, there is an oil glut. But short term profits are still to be made. But econo-politically, oil as the world's only energy is on it's last hurra! Good for our children and children's children.

That Dubai potentate knew that the Oil Age will go the same way as the Bronze Age and the Iron Age did, for if mankind will not heed the call, we may have to go back to Stone-Age. But somehow at my age I am not holding ny breath....

The Watchdog Responds this way!
To: Redpeach,
You might want to listen to Michael it seems he is the only man to ever admit that size does matter. Perhaps, you are in competition?

Scot, you better check your facts Joseph Biden is 65 years old never been tortured and has had more medical problems than John S. McCain. I'm sure the troops can salute McCain without him saluting back. I am sure they will understand why with his arms broken numerous times thru torture by the enemy.

You are just upset because like Mitt, Rudy and Governor Palin stated tonight your candidate did not one time mention victory of any kind except concerning his own campaign last week at the DNC. He dare not congratulate our brave troops on a job well done during the surge and admit he was wrong and McCain was right.

Also, how much campaigning have you noticed Bill and Hilary doing this week for Obama. They made their last big hoorah! Your candidate is on his own and is sure to lose without the support of the Clinton's, he's said so himself. I'd sure like to know how Obama was able to pursuade Bill Clinton to change his mind and show up at the convention, there was talk earlier he would boycott it. As I've said before when he made the comment; "My Candidate didn't win"! It was the most profound thing he has said since; "I did not have sexual relations with that woman". Maybe Obama promised him an intern?

Isabel,
Funny you should mention Dubai, care to go online and explore what all the oil rich shiek's have done with the bounty they have collected from us infidel westerners?

They have done everything they can to build an equivalent cross between Las Vegas, Disney World, Cabo and the French Riviera on their coastline.

Not only do they want our money they want our social life and vices to go along with it, I see.

When the Republicans take office and as offshore drilling is widened and other sources for gaining our own oil are found you are going to see that sudden influx of money borrowed from China returning to our own soil to provide the crude oil. When that happens many of the third world countries will sink back into the poverty they have always known and not prosper in any way.

Iraq is missing out on what could have made them the richest of the allies in the Middle Eastern Territories. They also could have remained one of the best protected regions as well. But to save face they are one day going to lose lives, mark my words. Iran one day will run over them like a thirsty camel to water. Leaving a river of unequalled blood in their pathway to their oil rich land. Then who will they turn to, Kuwait? Then as Iran does become the proud owner of nuclear weapons they will hold the rest of the region hostage for their riches. The difference between the President of Iran and Sadam is the Iranian President saw all the mistakes Sadam made and won't make the same one's.

Wow, you really think untold wealth is out there just waiting for us to drill it?

I've got sad news for you, Fred. Even if there is a lot of oil out there (no one really knows), the money isn't going into our pockets. The oil (if the oil companies bother to extract it) will be sold on the world market, and the profits will go to further enrich Big Oil. If there's more oil than anticipated, OPEC can just cut back a bit to keep prices stable.

As for Dubai, my brother told me that luxury and everything else there is
indeed so much larger than life, that it is embarrassing, even to the well to
do Occidental.

But that had not been the intended quintessence of my observation.
I am sorry that I failed. I thought it was focused upon the topic of the
Age of Petroleum. And I know that my post did not include Saddam
Hussein, Iraq's oil, Iran or United States monetary debts to China.
Therefore I have nothing to contribute, and I cannot accept the challenge.
So sorry!

From the: Watchdog! An observer
To: Isabel Lawson.

That chip you carry on your shoulder must be of an enormous burden to you?

Please, relax and enjoy life instead of being so determined to characterize everything as a time of doom!

No one is holding you personally responsible for Dubai's irresponsibility with it's riches. Anymore than I am being held for that of the United States in many ways.

After all just estimate the expense on the two conventions in this country over the last two weeks and you can see although elections are important. How much good could that money have done many charities including the recovery from Gustav in the Gulf? Millions were spent to gain four to six points in the polls which will change again next week. In my opinion a complete waste of money, which could have gone for greater causes.

Maybe one year donations to charity will be made instead of expensive conventions, the Delegates can all meet at Starbucks and decide who their candidate should be?

Both parties complain about expenditures in government, but look at the war chests they both have to work with politically?

It's kind of like "Daddy War Bucks" hoggin all the cash and then complaining the economy is slowing.

But then while wearing the top line and design in clothing, we complain about the high cost of fuel over our $5.00 custom made 16 ounce cup of coffee, go figure! Then complain about extravigance in the world.

No chip on the shoulder. Only amused that another male blogger usurps the right to dish it out but cannot take it. And I say it again. I am a focused writer who sticks to a topic unless digressing from it is essential to the entire plot.

And I am not accustomed to be addressed by strangers in a manner of familiarity. But I guess that goes with blogging.

More sexist remarks by Issy. An as another blogger said, more eloquent BS.
