The Fran Florez campaign for the Assembly takes surprising turn today, running very friendly ads on KMJ radio supporting Nicole Parra, D-Hanford, for her tough negotiating in Sacramento. Could this be a goodwill peace gesture? I think it's a very smart and calculated move, designed to turn to the candidate's advantage all the positive feelings toward Parra's independent streak. Clearly, Florez doesn't want to be seen as opposing Parra's actions.
So do you think it will work, seeing as how these two sworn enemies would pretty much prefer to rumble in the Woodward Park amphitheater? Or do you see this more cynically as a ploy by Florez to befriend Parra's ag supporters, who are singing hymns to her for what they see as a show of courage on behalf of Valley interests.

In case you're just tuning into this fight, here's the condensed version: The Florez and Parra families are long-time political enemies. Parra's throwing gasoline on that fire this year by publicly praising Republican Danny Gilmore, who's running for Parra's seat against Fran, a Democrat. So far, Fran's biggest sin is being related to Dean Florez, a state senator who long ago helped defeat Parra's father, Pete, for a Kern County supervisorial seat. Despite coming from the same party and having many itnerests in common, Dean and Nicole have been bitter enemies in the Legislature.
Now, if Nicole can put a political knife in Fran Florez's back, well, it's a payback for papa. The only problem with that thinking is that the Democrats poured millions into propping up Parra's campaigns when she faced some rough opponents. So, they are not amused with the self-serving nature of her little revenge plot.
Parra's being soundly thrashed by Karen Bass, Assembly speaker, for trading her vote for the Democratic state budget proposals to a completely unrelated issue, which is putting a water bond proposal on the November ballot.
Parra's been kicked out of her office and Bass took a ball peen hammer to Parra's pending legislation.
Recently, one of my posts maintained (perhaps upon unjustly superficial observation) that women politicians, women with power are often people with clay feet. The frequency of it tends to bear out the observation.
Some repeated occurrence of it seems to be documented in this miniscule window of history, the Fresnobeehive BLOG. I think female tendency toward intrigue, plotting, designing is stronger developed than it is in the male. It may be primeval.
That does not mean that I am not overawed by the great female leaders and politicians of modern times. But that does not include Karen Bass, Fran Flores and Nicole Parra. I know women because I am all woman; doing her very best not to be waspish, but trying to be a clinically objective intellect; irrelative of gender and/or age.
While taking a break from house work and enjoying my 10:00 AM casse croute, (sorry no translation available, a snack??) I found another name for my list of less than suitable politicicians: Carole Midgen (the screamer.)
It appears that Governor Schwarzenegger has his own legislators coven. WE ARE AMUSED!
NICOLE PARRA! OH SO RILED;
YET, THE GROWERS GOING WILED.
NONE OF THEM ARE TOO PROGRESSIVE,
BUT REPUBLICANS THEY ARE; OBSESSIVE.
PARRA! PARRA! IS IT PROVEN
THAT SACRAMENTO HAS A COVEN?
ADD MIDGEN; FLOREZ AND THE BASS
WE MAY HAVE IT; LASS BY LASS.
Lunetunes Izzy trying to distract the issue, which is the odacity of a slimeball politicain (Florez) attempting to hone in on the courage and integrity of rival. Courage and integrity is something this scavenger candidate (Florez Jr. or Sr.) know nothing about.
I heard the Florez campaign ad, political deception grafted into the cambium of Parra's valley fidelity.
In valley fields
water should flow
beneath the cotton
row on row.
As I have said before, Americans are developing political dynasties. Before
us we are observing the Parra/Florez family feud, dating back to yesterday's
political relatives.
In the Dark Ages those nobility clans attacked each other's castles and razed them.
The victors put the vanquished into dungeons or killed them.
If Gail Marshall's report is not opinion but history, then I would say that
Parra is a spiteful woman and no heroin. And Perez has more political pragmatism
than idealism. And neither of the two women should hold elective office that has
the power to influence the lives of millions of Californians.
Perez should know better...whoever she is.
Fran is not a very good politician since she does not know that there is no real "communist" on this world any more. Old communist Chinese is getting richer with big saving for decades and China is our debt holder. I don't think Fran know about that. We and Americans love credit cards and so our country. Nothing wrong with let them do the cheap labor works while we are innovating high techs to get high pays. Work smart, you get it Fran!
China always wants to be American's best friend since Nixon's first visit in late 70s. Fran needs to read more books about China and its people and the best way is to visit China at least once. Or visiting China Town in LA, then you can see how Chinese, Mexican and other people are every closed together.
I don't like her ad saying that "Jobs go to Communist China". For some reason, the word communitst was omitted on the later TV ad. I think It looks smarter. Some time wrong adjective makes the ad looks bad.
Just a few words for Fran. Hope Fran has a broader knowledge about people of this world since she is Californian, the international people, the people that lead the world.
Cheers!
yes i would like to know what the two politicians think of illegal immargration i have been out of work since september of 07 and i am a carpenter . i am sick and tired of hearing nothing about these people comming up here and taking jobs away from americans because they will do them cheeper . i am not a racist a i just want my job back i have a family to rais and isn't fare that mexico can't get it together and provide jobs for its people . i think we should them all back home our jails would be less crowded ,homeless rate would go down, we would have more water , cleaner air and our hosital emergency rooms woulden't be so crowded . you to make it a law that when an officer pulls someone over that they ask for documentation if they are illegal send them home .i went on my birth day to renew my license i was the only person waiting inline that was caucasian out 200 people that is just uneceptable and a outrage .ceaser chaves said in 1967 we will take california without firing a shot and they have and you politicians have let it happen . now as an american i have scrap to make a living i can't even get a job as a meat cutter in the slaughter house they all work there too . you need to to start doing somthing about this because i am not the only complianing about this i have friends from childhood that are mexican americans that are just as pissed as i am its not about color its about money . if you can't protect the jobs here in the valley then why are you bitching about china taking jobs away middle america is know finding out that you politicians are all in it for the money not for us .
I would like to comment on the recent political ad that Fran Flores is running. It is the one about her visiting the prison and finding prisoners in bed and not out working to pay for their keep.
Well I would like to ask why haven't you looked up all the illegal aliens that are also criminalS and find out how many of those people are laying in the bed or on the couch with their bottle of beer, a cigarette and making more babies for the tax payers to support. You politians crack me up with some of your stupid statements. The government (and that speaks to you) turn a deaf ear and a blind eye to the illegal criminals that are here in our country illegally taking jobs away from the American people and standing in line for all the freebees that they want handed out to them. When will the government officials take a stand on the issue and start asking for documentation and deporting these criminal families back to Mexico. Please start listening to the voters and take a stand on this issue and stop pointing fingers and making stupid ridiculos statements that makes you look like an idiot and out of touch with what is really going on in the American communites. WE ARE SICK AND TIRED OF ALL OF IT. I AM NOT A TRAINED BORDER PATROL AGENT, BUT GIVE ME A CALL AND I WILL TAKE YOU ON A SHOPPING TRIP TO WAL-MART AND POINT THEM OUT TO YOU AND WE CAN LOAD "EM UP FOR A BUS RIDE BACK TO THEIR COUNTRY. Oh !!! Lets see you are in our country illegally (what part of illegal don't you and the government not understand???)You walk in our streets, flaunt your illegal criminal status in all our faces, take our jobs and feel up our emergency rooms and wait for your welfare check to arrive. Well the games up.
GO HOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
According to the web search biography/information on Fran Florez, she is 64 years old. (I couldn't find an actual date of birth). The simple math therein points to her being born in/around 1944...
Now she has a radio campaign ad playing up how her father taught her "...everything she needed to know about putting people first" or words to that effect. The ad goes on to say he stormed the beaches at Normandy and was later killed on a European Battlefield...
Now I would never besmirch someones military service to our nation and that is not my intention here at all. But I also don't like to see military service used in a twisted aggrandizing fashion like Fran may be doing here as:
1. Anyone storming the beach at Normandy (June 6, 1944) would have had extensive training in the US and staging in England prior to that. Fran's father probably volunteered or was drafted into the service as early as Pearl Harbor (December 7, 1941) or as late as sometime in 1943 to make Normandy in June, 1944.
2. That would make Fran mere months old when her father shipped out for Europe.
The reality is probably a great American story...
But the radio ad portrays her father as having a significant influence on her life when she could only be mere months old and he would have been away a lot in military training and being staged overseas.
The ad plays her father up, appropriately I might ad, as a patriotic person with a great sacrifice for our nation. BUT those were sacrifices HE made, Fran Florez did not make said sacrifices yet seemingly appears to want that by association as it is used in her radio campaign ad.
Be proud of your father. But don't use him in mere political posturing by sacrificing what he really did to play up to voters for yourself.
