Rural hospitals are the first dominos

Cuts in Medi-Cal reimbursements could have terrible consequences for rural health care in the Valley and other parts of the state. That's our conclusion in an editorial today.

We've already seen the impact of hospital and emergency room closures in several small Valley towns. The services go away, but not the patients. In a short time, they begin showing up at the emergency rooms of urban hospitals, putting a strain on those institutions. It's also the most costly way to treat people.

In a rational world, we'd have dozens of small rural clinics doing primary care, reducing the need for expensive ER visits. But we don't live in a rational world. We live in California.

What your post fails to address is that poor folks tend to ignore health problems until they are out of control, then they pack ER with complaints that could have been dealt with in a better manner.

California tries very hard to provide health care to ALL who live in the state. That is a heavy burden. Cash is in short supply and cuts are being made, but hardly think that any person in need of health care due to not having coverage is going to be denied by any hospital.

Shame on you to imply that California is not aware of the needs of folks to get proper care, and is clueless of the world at large in dealing with medical cost, California and the taxpayers here are VERY AWARE.

Yesterday, I wrote a letter to Congress, it seems America's precarious health-care has been relagated to a subcommitee on "commerce," this certainly explains the crises were in. Health no longer has a cabinet-level position...i heard about a guy that is moving to G.B. just for the care they provide it's citizens,...too bad we all don't have that option.

Shame on you Russ Minick for even hinting that health care might be a national scandal. Go and cast ashes upon your head.

But did not DeFrees tell us (in another blog)that he was planning to go to England because there they would take care of the decrepitude him; (and I presume MOI.)

I interned for a year in the Royal Eye Hospital in
Manchester England. I worked with an adorable Irish girl who justified her lapses in duty with:
"Isabell" she said, "If one can't have fame they can settle for notoriety"

I checked if notority can be interchanged with obnoxious? nae!
