On thing is for sure, the next governor's race will be an interesting one, especially on the Democratic side. They're recycling Jerry Brown and John Garamendi, and they'll be a couple of newcomers mayors, San Francisco's Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles' Antonio Villaraigosa. That's the early field for the Dems in the 2010 governor's race, although some will not run and others will jump in.
I take a look at the prospects in today's column in the Vision section. Jerry Brown, now attorney general, looks to be the early frontrunner because he is so well known across California.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger can't run again because of term limits. The GOP field hasn't jelled yet, but Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner is considered by many to be a likely candidate for governor in two years. If he runs, he'll be a solid candidate got the GOP.
Have always been fond of Jerry Brown. California could use a chap like him these days.
Is MOI the only soul who remembers when the called him 'Governor Moonbeam'?
Jerry Brown did great things in Oakland and with the passing years, his sort of vision is more in tune with the times than before.
I respected Edmond Brown and his son Jerry Brown, while being governors of California. I remember the derogatory name
for the latter.
In this culture, if a public figure's sex life is not public property, one
is labeled odd at best, and less complimentary yet, at worst.
It is my believe that former Governor Jerry Brown, as Attorney General can protect us from predatory business, industry and corrupt
lawmakers, as well as corrupt public servants far better, than he could
as governor.
The California Republic could function very well without a governor.
We have learned that from a chain of useless ones.
By the way...do we have a Ronald Reagan Memorial Redwood Tree. I would
not be surprised. And we better had getting busy to build more airports and
schools to name them Arnold Schwarzenegger something.
Former Governor Jerry Brown, at age 70, should refuse to be recycled?????
Californians don't deserve a leader of his caliber.
Yes, at 55, I have watched our Governor Moonbeam contribute so much to our state. Still proud of him and, although was "once" a strong supporter of Gavin Newsom, JB would have my vote over almost anyone.

Sounds like we are in for bigger trouble if you guys actually think Brown or Newsome would be anything but a disaster.
The point being; we guys don't think that he would be a disaster...and so far
the pro Brown support is
ahead 3/1.
God help us all, if any of these radical leftists--either Newsom, Brown, or Villaraigosa takes the governors mansion.
Just how much of your paycheck, and freedom to spend it as you choose, are you willing to give up?
All the Democrat candidates plan to raise taxes, add regulation, and encourage litigation. This doesnt sound like freedow to me.
Right now, Good seems not to help us with the right wing at the helm.
I believe that ex-Governor
Brown is the proverbial golden middle.
Isabell, my dear, you can do better than that! The "right wing at the helm"? Arnold, a right-winger? More likely a Kennedy Democrat (not the JFK version, the "teddy version")!
Jerry Brown the "proverbial golden middle"? What does that mean? The middle of the Marxist-Leninist, Neo-Maoist revolution of the proletariat?
As long as we are indulging in fantasy, what next, the restoration of "The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion"?
I suspect that T.C. considers anyone to the left of the late Sen. Jesse Helms to be in the "middle of the Marxist-Leninist, Neo-Maoist revolution of the proletariat."
They once told me to be careful what I pray for because I may get it.
Welcome back T.C. Morgan.
By golden middle of the road, I mean the political moderates. Those who
apply the socio/human values we cherish to the affairs of the state.
Among them are Liberty, Justice and the Pursuit of Happiness for We the People. And it matters not at what corner of the earth, or in what language.
The political Middle is despised by the demagogues of the Left as well as the Right. That's the reason we so rarely see a government like that.
Name calling reflects on the caller, not the callee. I suspect that at least one certain name-caller knows what I am talking about.
Belles-letters his/her tongue ain't.

True! True!
Isabell, even that lib of libs Jim Hightower says, "the middle of the road is for yellow lines and dead armadillos." Personally, I like the quote I once heard, "neutral men are the devil's allies."

"Last Friday, on the Fourth of July, the great American patriot Jesse Helms passed away. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson also went to their great reward on Independence Day, so this is further proof of God." 7/9/08 Ann Coulter
Here... here TC Morgan.
This July 4th seemed especially significant. We were given a much appreciated break from the heat, and filthy air, and in its place a glorious clear sky, and unseasonably cool weather.
The significance of the day was also marked by the loss of a noted patriot.
Those things which man cannot control are of God.
