Is flying really more painful?
Last week I had to book a flight for our college boy's return home for part of his summer break. The ticket for a round-trip ticket from Omaha to Bakersfield ended up costing us about $382.
Just for comparison, I decided to plug in the travel details and see how that compared with prices for Amtrak and Greyhound. Surprisingly, to me, the cost of the three were all within a few dollars of each other.
The biggest difference was in the travel time. Mikel's trip home -- IF all goes according to plan, and that's a pretty big if -- will take him about nine hours, if you factor in getting to the airport early. On Greyhound, the trip would take him about 38 to 41 hours. And on Amtrak, it would take him 47 hours.
It just shows there are many factors to consider when planning travel.

Unless one has a generous
expense account or can afford to pay first class,
the only thing the plane has going for it is the time element.
I cannot go to Europe by train, I get seasick on the water. So at home I stay till they carry me out feet first.
