How to spot a fake photo

missiles.JPG Are the Iranians faking it? The controversial Iranian photo question story carried in The Bee is getting a lot of attention. The Scientific American magazine has some good detail on the science of authenticating photos. Hany Farid, a digital forensics expert at Dartmouth College, wrote an article on faked photos for the June issue I found fascinating and the editors called him up for his take on the missile photo and a tornado video that's raised many questions.

But what is the importance of the authenticity of the photo?
The US military, in outer space is spying on everything that goes on around the globe, they would know what the Iranians did or did not.

I guess it goes to show that sometimes a picture is worth a thousand lies.

But as Isabell asks, what's the point other than the chance to play "gotcha" at a clumsy exaggeration? Does anyone dispute that the Iranians launched missiles into the Persian Gulf? Isn't that the real significance here?

Condi Rice made some saber-rattling statements after the missile test that the U.S. was prepared to defend Israel (like they don't have enough missiles to defend themselves). But the real threat posed by these Iranian missiles is to the oil tanker traffic that goes through the Strait of Hormuz, just off the coast of Iran. All Iran has to do is sink one supertanker, and $4 a gallon will seem like the "good ol' days."

This was clearly a defensive message aimed at those who think bombing Iran will be a quick and easy solution to the problems in the Mid East. Just like invading Iraq turned out to be.

I wonder if Iranian TV is saturated with flaccid-penis medication commercials like in the USA? ...thats not an unrelated topic, is it?

Is there a Farsi translation for "natural male enhancement"?

The topic of two of the posts is not my problem. Not in English, French,
German, Latin or Farsi. I haven't the foggiest notion of the latter.

At first, my husband and I, we were embarrassed by those TV commercials, but after a while we yielded to the hilarity of screwing
oneself deaf and blind as a side affect of the pep-up. How does Iran figure into it? My mind is wide
open.....
