The Bee's editorial board has started tracking each day that California goes into the new fiscal year without passing a state budget. This will run daily on the editorial page until a budget is passed.
Lawmakers don't seem to think it's a big deal to ignore the law, although these nanny-staters have no problem passing thousands of laws that they think we should observe.
No wonder we have a $15.2 billion budget deficit and no solution in sight. So lawmakers have overspent last year's budget, and haven't passed this year's budget. Let's give them a raise.
Here's the reason the Legislature can't reduce the deficit: State Controller John Chiang reports that California spent $3.9 billion more in the last fiscal year than the state took in. Essentially, lawmakers had a deficit and they decided to fix it by making it bigger.
Amazing howv they can give themselves raises in the first place. Wish we could all do that. They need to be penalized for spending money thats not there and not passing a budget.
When are Californians going to wise up, and vote these fiscally irresponsible Democrats out of office. If you are in the dark, the Democrats are running the show in the state, and the Hispanic caucus is more powerful than any other in the state. Dems keep adding to entitlement programs, and saddling taxpayers with the bill. Democrats majorities continue to successfully block Republican attempts to cut spending, and waste for the past year.
We need more Republicans elected to office. Remember this in November.
Still no budget, yet the Legislature is going on vacation? What's wrong with this picture?
As for those who think spending cuts alone will solve the budget deficit, I'd like to see them specify exactly what they want cut. Vague assertions of "waste" doesn't cut it.
