Conservative blogger blasts Autry's water ploy
Stephen Frank over at California Political News and Views says it's time for Fresno Mayor Alan Autry to go. Frank was reacting to my blog post about Autry saying he won't pay his income taxes until the San Joaquin Valley gets more water for agriculture.
Here's Frank's post:
Alan Autry was a very mediocre actor. He is even more mediocre as a Mayor. In a couple of years folks will laugh at the memory of Autry. Now he is willing to go to jail if the State and Feds don’t give his area more water. He thinks it is a crisis. But maybe one of the reasons there is no water is because of the abuse of the 2006 Water Bonds—meant to create water sources for the State. Mr. Autry did not hesitate to take funds from that statewide bond measure to help pay for an aquarium for Fresno, instead of using the money for real water projects.
As an actor, he put people in jail. Now, in real life, if the judge doesn’t laugh to hard, maybe the Mayor will get to be on the other side of the bars.
Fresno deserves better than this. It is a growing town. I was in Fresno on Monday. I was very impressed by the new growth and dynamic feeling of the town. Due to my work I travel a lot. Without hesitation, the best restaurant in the whole State is in Fresno, The Ripe Tomato!
The good news is that Autry, who has supported lots of state bonds, which have put us in heavy debt, will soon leave office. Maybe he will work the dinner theater circuit? Certainly no one in public policy takes him seriously.

Comments
Nice plug for the Ripe Tomato restaurant.

A mate of mine tells that for an actor it is all about working, and Mayor Autry did work, there are even some who tell MOI that he was the reason they watch the show on the telly.
Mayor Autry is an ACTOR, he know theatre and MOI thinks much of what he does is for dramatic effect.
MOI has not lived here long, but am told that as MAYOR, he was not bad, sure to be a hard act to follow. To be true, he danced(bloody hell, he even did on YOUTUBE) to his own tune, and did not let the DWARF councilmembers dictate to him.
As to your comment about no one taking him serious, pure bullocks, the governor was here in Fresno lots and Autry got to chat with him about Fresno loads. That is pretty strong 'juice'.
Quite the giggle that you rave about an eatery here by the name of "Ripe Tomato", with the DWARF running to be mayor, and a city council lacking in leadership(soon to be corrected with Lee Brand joining) the business of government is ripe with rot!
Folks in town already are laughing at present city council and will be rolling in the isles if DWARF Perea gets elected, Mayor Autry will be recalled with fondness.

Mother was a dyed in the wool politico as far as raising four kids allowed it. She taught me that Conservative meant to be un-aligned with extreme political factions, and that the designations Left and Right had to do with seating in parliament (in Europe originally.)
As of today, more and more there seems to be nothing conservative about the
Conservatives. They are practically foaming at the mouth while pushing their political agenda. In my book they are radicals. And in the fresnobeehive, some of them, they seem not to be too choosey about their language.
To call a perfect stranger a "smart ass lady" is not Emily Post's idea of being polite.
But the hardest thing to accept is the total lack of respect for opposing views. Political fanaticism is no less dangerous to the "domestic tranquility" of a people than is religious fanaticism. Both of them preach from the bully pulpit.
Yet, I believe that there are signs that the, grown silent, American Middle Class is getting tired of the demagogues. The voting pattern tends to indicate it.
I did not admire the Fresno Mayor. I did not think much about his fixation on a downtown lake and river and what have you in the middle of semi-desert where every tree and flower need to be irrigated. And I would have opposed it actively. But social intercourse alone would compel me to be civil about it.
During the years of my community activism, the worst of ribbing I got was to be offered KIbbles and Bits for being a Council watch dog that could bite.

I think some of the bloggers are missing the point. Perhaps they are blinded by Autry’s good-old-boy persona. (Subconsciously, libs always subtract 20 IQ points when they hear a "country" accent - just another form of prejudice).
The point is WATER!!!!!! However locals choose to frame it - with any action or accent - articulate or illiterate - it’s the WATER!

As Autry said if we don't get water we can't produce food so yes water is the issue here. He said we will have to rely on getting our food elsewhere like we do our oil. We are already getting slammed at the grocery store. At leazst he is willing to stand up for the farmers in our community. As the sign on the freeway says FOOD GROWS WHERE WATER FLOWS.

Sorry Izzy, I'm just tired of the windbags who offer no solutions or effort(like you and Jackie).I like the guy's solution from the no suits, no ties and no lies car dealership...There can't be that many environmentalists so let's just kick their butts.Your prose is elegant,Izzy, but it's still useless B.S.Autry was right about one thing...It's gonna take a revolution.Arm yourselves and choose sides.

TC of all the people, reading from your long list of politically bias rants stare in the mirror to find IQ challenges.
you wrote:

An open mind would realize that libs also have "country" accents, it's not restricted to conservatives.
Judging from your politically bias persona this is something that may not light the bulb over your head.
Do you realize your a victim of political partisanship, an unwitting tool.

Too much water is being used by residential and commercial development. Household water winds up waste water. And more and more residential swimming pools need filling and refilling. That is a lot of pressure on the available resources. What
is needed is building moratoriums around good arable soil.
But in this part of California, no elected official would have the guts to implement it; even whisper it.
Free enterprise does not mean to abuse the land helter skelter. Freedom is to be able to be good stewards. Some localities
have managed it. Fresno County is not a likely place. Some want a nuclear powerplant around here. Any idea how much water that would require? The days of let George do it are gone. Citizens must be informed citizens and do what it needs to avert
crisis. And that is not a platitude that is stark reality.

Rich:
BTW, I’m on record as "having only an IQ of 69 on a hot day." I frequently admit my inabilities and have never professed an intellect at any point. I am extremely sorry that you cannot find it within yourself to honestly and openly admit the same!
And FYI, everyone has a bias; I have a honest, heart-felt, theology-based bias towards Biblical conservatism. I’ve never hidden it, have been up-front about it at every point - unlike most libs and Marxists who frequently hide behind wimpy, politically correct terms like, "progressive."

Oi!! Don't you just love a good hiss between posters?
Ms. Lawson, who normally gets high marks for being at least correct in her statements of 'know' facts, gets it very wrong here. My dear, the use of water for residential use pales in comparison to the amount used by business and AG. THAT is a well established fact. AND she screams 'horror' at the very thought of having a nuclear power plant in Fresno. MOI can tell here that in Sweden, MOI visited a community that got all of its power from nuclear, and no one was brain dead and the food did not glow on the table. One has to join the rest of the world in finding a better way to power up.
MOI thinks that Ms. Lawson probably has a very high IQ, welcome to the club, MOI does as well(talk about self serving).
TC, can you walk and chew gum at the same time, or do you need to borrow the cane from Rich, who seems to be so enlightened that he see quite clearly 'victims, fools, and other things that go bump in the night.
For the record, MOI is an old fat geezer who is sinking into decreptitude and one has to make allowances for his odd sense of humour.

That whatever I have to say, being useless, may be a very astute observation.
Being called a windbag is a notch up from what I have been called earlier.
Right after reading Brian Murray's mucho post, I went to the faucet to check for its results. Alas! The water pressure was still lousy and the volume of flow had not increased either.
...hear the wind blowing, hear the wind blow...

I'd like to hear more about this aquarium dealio?
Posted by: swift | July 24, 2008 1:41 PM
Here's a the URL to an LA Times article on that:
http://articles.latimes.com/2007/may/21/local/me-pork21
It appears that Prop 84, passed a few years ago, did allow for some money to be spent on cultural-type projects in addition to water infrastructure. But this has been cited as an egregious example of pork spending by editorialists and bloggers in other parts of the state, who seem to take delight in pointing out that Fresno is 100 miles from the nearest ocean (and hence undeserving of a facility like this, presumably).

MOI! Whoever or whatever you are. My post never stated that domestic and
commercial water use exceeds agricultural use. Only that the former
wastes a lot of water.
Sweden, this MOI person says, still uses nuclear power. So do other other
countries. But by January 2007 seven nations shut down their nuclear power
plants. The Republic of Austria, one of the wealthiest EU nations has a brand new power plant just sitting there, never having been used. The Austrian voter forbade the plant being put in commission ever. Austria in perpetuity is a nation without nuclear power. They are doing fine with water, wind and solar power. South Korea had announced that it was going to shut down its
nuclear power plant (I don't know if they did it.) Sacramento voted Rancho Secco out of commission some time back. California law as of today does not allow, by popular vote, the proliferation of nuclear power plants.
Please, MOI with the high IQ, don't enlighten me about anything.
And MOI with the high IQ, I scream in horror as much as I want in the privacy
of my computer room. Just leave me in the bliss of my ignorance. Do you understand?
Posted by: Isabell Lawson | July 24, 2008 2:36 PM
What is URL?
Posted by: Isabell Lawson | July 24, 2008 3:06 PM
All MOI can say is that Ms. Lawson probably should have a padded computer room after this .
Let us hope that she has a brick in her toilet tank to keep water from being wasted, a pail to capture water used, and reused for some other purpose. It is all about the water!!!!
At some point some one is going to have to figure out how to keep the power going to keep things running, GASP, Ms. Lawson with out power to her computer would be a fright.
Is it not lucky that in a few years MOI will cross the pond and live out his days in London, far from the screams that will be coming from a certain personage due to lack of water and power.
comprendre?

I drive around in Fresno a lot and I see so much water being wasted by homeowner and also on commercial property. I see streams running down the streets into gutters. It is shameful. People should take care of the problem before it becomes a law that you cannot water because of the waste.
