A new beginning for Stacy Johnson-Klein

Glad to read that Stacy Johnson-Klein is writing a new chapter in her life, quite literally. Looking for book and movie deals and taking a job in marketing sound like the kinds of things she's well suited to, though the basketball group she's with sounds a little bit shaky. Maybe they're all looking for second chances, and they'll show everybody by having great success in Lawton, OK. Hope so.

Johnson-Klein certainly got justice in a financial sense, but clearly money isn't everything to her or she would just sit back, bake cupcakes for the PTA fundraisers and get massages for the next 50 years with all that $9 million. The very best thing that could happen to her would be to find success doing work she loves and raise up some happy, healthy young'uns in a peaceful place. Put up a basketball goal on the garage, and have fun playing horse with the neighbor kids.

Now, about casting that movie.... I'm thinking Katherine Heigl for the lead. How about you?

Stacy Johnsohn-Klein got justice? I think just a lot of money to punish
Mr. Welty. Except, the money is not his but the community's.

She seems to be very attractive; and she would not be walking on my wood floors with those absurd, ridiculously high spike heels she apparently wore when coaching her team. She is also proof that one
can go home again.

Does this new job mean she is leaving town?

Would have been nice to see some of that money spent in our Fresno Community.

She probobly wants to leave all the bad memories behind, with one good memory of hitting a jackpot lawsuit.

At least now she can afford to hang out at Starbucks. (insert Oklahoma Starbucks joke here)

Actually think they hang out at the 'Dairy Queen' there.

It certainly does appear that her economic losses were not nearly what she claimed at trial, doesn't it?

I am happy for her and wish her the best of luck. I hope she finds peace there. As for the high heels Isabel some people can walk better in them than in flats although I don't know how. I concur on Katherine Heigle to [portray her in a movie.

Your cut on PTA is insulting. I am sure the SJK like many other professional women who have school age childen will certainly enjoy her parent involvement by participating in an parent organization such as PTA. Being an active member of PTA does not preclude a woman from also having a profession. Your flippant mention of PTA in the context of "sitting back" and "having massages" in the same breath ignores the meaningful activity that PTA does. If SJK raises her children away from Fresno, I hope she ends up in a place that PTA is valued by the local media.
I personally am sickened of your newspaper's tone and attitude about PTA. Twice in one week the Bee has been disrespectful of the hard work commitment of PTA parents, regardless of profession or income. Shame on you. Parent involvement reduces dropouts, which is a real problem and not a number game. Perhaps your paper needs an attitude adjustment towards PTA and not compound the dropout problem. Mary Fitzpatrick

I was not worried that she could not be comfortable in those spike heels. But they pack enough force to ruin a good wood floor, crack tiles etc. In some public buildings one is not allowed to wear them at all. I once was given a pair of felt mules to walk
on an antique mosaic.

Sad to read anything about SJK.Why does the Bee give this financial whore any press.Because they can I guess.I wouldn't want her on the PTA or anything where character counts.Let her pursue her ego trip without us having to see stupid articles, that smirky smile and Dr.Gail's goofy comments.Glenn Close plays a good bitch and would be perfect for the part.

THE PTA HAS MANY FUNDRAISERS THAT HELP PAY FOR REPAIRS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES. THESE EVENTS TAKE ALOT OF PLANNING BY THE PARENTS THUS SHOULD ALWAYS BE RESPECTED AND COMMENDED FOR THEIR INVOLVEMENT. I THINK HER HIGH HEALS DO ALOT LESS DAMAGE THAN HERD OF DONKEYS FOR THE DONKEY BASKETBALL GAMES THEY HAVE.

I’ve long contended that once of history’s greatest PR hit jobs was the collusion between the Fresno Bee and the AdMin at FSU. The anti-Stacy cabal made her the anti-Christ - every day dribbling out negative rumors - day after long day - every rumor, every dirty low-down unsubstantiated rumor - front page of the Bee for three weeks during her travails with FSU and then again during her trial. By comparison - the Ray Lopes affair - guilty of far more indiscretions than Stacy - a two day news cycle and he walked away with a golden handshake. Don’t tell that there wasn’t gender discrimination at FSU!

Based on all that ugly PR, everybody thought Johnson-Klein was "fried." And the jury chose to believe absolutely nothing of what was said. Nothing!

I have never seen such an ugly negative PR campaign. It was strangely masterful, yet scary about what they can do to a person’s rep. It makes me wonder how much other media collusion is/will be going on during this political season.

If the Bee / FSU PR boys used one-tenth of the effort they expended on Johnson-Klein on Obama, he would be left curled up in a fetal position under his bed whimpering like a little baby.

And if the Bee/FSU PR boys expended that effort on McCain? What then?

At any rate, I find it interesting that someone found a way to slam Obama in a Stacey Johnson-Klein article. It's a continuing game of limbo around here.

May God forgive each one of you that have made horrible comments about SJK. You have crucified a young mother, wife and coach now get over it and worry about your own problems not hers.

Scott:

I could have just as correctly said, "John McCain." Don’t miss my point - that there is an incestuous relationship between most media entities and some sports / educational organizations. Obviously, FSU is dependent on the ONLY paper in town for advertising their main product - sports and/or educational matters(?).

The Bee needs that ad/PR money to exist; FSU needs the Bee to push or further their "goals." FSU needed the Bee (and the local TV stations) to conduct an unholy war on Johnson-Klein. They succeeded. Amazingly, the public - in the form of a jury - chose to utterly ignore the best efforts of a massive city-wide PR machine - there’s a lesson there for somebody! But in the process a person’s life was ruined. Ten or twenty years from now, nobody will remember that overwhelming jury verdict or the amount awarded, but they will remember all the "negatives" about Stacy Johnson-Klein. The FSU / Fresno Bee PR hit team could teach most political campaigns a thing or two!

Ok thanks, I did miss your point. Probably because you threw Obama's name into an article about Stacey Johnson-Klein. And trust me, we all know how you feel about Obama.

On a similar note, Fresno is not a big town. I come from Los Angeles and the first thing I noticed right away about the Bee was that there didn't seem to be any other sports going on in the world other than what Fresno State was doing. I've joked many times that it could be Super Bowl Sunday and covering the entire first page of the sports section would be Bulldog stories. Don't get me wrong...my hat's off to the many accomplishments of some of the programs, most recently the baseball team's National Championship, but there IS life beyond Fresno.

There's an important point everyone is missing here. SJK's lawsuit was based on the premise that FSU destroyed her career, finishing off her hireability in the sports field.

Obviously, that claim was a farce. It looks to me like SJK conveniently stayed unemployed until she got her settlement. Then, whellah! She immediately lands a promotion to a cushy, and unquestionably more lucrative job as CEO of a minor league basketball team.

Fresno, the FSU student body, and alumni got the short end of the stick here. Why do Fresnan's celebrate this? I liken the contempt some Fresnan's hold for their hometown University to the contempt the Obama's hold for our country. What's up with that?

Is this going to be another of those 46 post blogs?

What have we got here?
A very good looking woman coach was brought from Oklahoma to Fresno U.
Probably because she was very good looking. She turned out to be a bigger problem (painkiller drug addiction for one) than the University wanted to handle. She was fired though her contract was to expire in just a few months. She sued, the jury awarded an unreasonably
large sum of money which the court reduced because it was an unreasonably large amount. And now she goes back to Oklahoma to
coach a minor league team.
Along the way she wound up to be a rich lady.

And that should be the plot for a film? Who would pay about $14.00
to see it?

Why red...I do believe you're trying to start a fight.

Its sad how human beings judge each other based on what you have heard from the drive by media. I have seen personally how the firing of SJK affected her, her family, and our neighborhood. I attended the trial and not once did the tv or radio reports reflect what actually happened in the courtroom. I wish all of Fresno could have been a witness to it. The perception of the motivation and outcomes of the trial is not reality. I am glad that this family received justice and that they can finally get on with their lives. Especially their children. If you see them I pray you wish them well. Don't be judgemental...it could happen to you someday.
