Cash register bells are ringing

Tuesday was the first full day that same-sex couples could get legally married in California, and dozens of Valley couples rushed in to take the big step. This is big history, but for entrepreneurs, it's also big business.
As we wrote in today's editorial (click here), there is big opportunity to make money.

Ad Age magazine reported that a UCLA study projects that the Golden State will see $683.6 million in direct spending over the next three years, thanks to California couples and out-of-state couples flocking here to seek same-sex marriages. During that same period, the study projects 2,178 jobs will be created in the state to service the industry.

Valley merchants already have their game on and were advertising their services during the marriage marathon Tuesday.

How exciting, the economic boon from homosexual marriage (a true oxymoron) may just prove to be the economic recovery we have been waiting for. Why didn't we think of this sooner? Just think, if we open marriage to man/boys, humans/animals, brothers/sisters, and every other creative relationship we can conceive of, why full economic recovery will be here in time for Christmas, rather, the "winter holiday season."

I am happy that two people that love each other can be married.

"The existence of gay marriage strengthens marriage for everyone, by not making it a tool for bigotry (and by not encouraging people to get into loveless and unstable marriages in contrast to their orientation)."

Qouted from Nat in California.

That about sums it up for me

I really expcted the posted topic to remain without comments. I was wrong.

Qedin:
Consider! English and German have 2 different words for bride and groom,
but French only one word for either.

perhaps the best feature of same-sex marriage is that there are no "accidental" pregnancies, only carefully planned, wanted children.

Q:

Good post!

Sigh .... it seems that in our society today money and perceived, so-called "rights" trumps morality and virtue.

Well!!!No planning in heaven or on earth could produce wanted or unwanted children in same sex marriage proper. F same sex marriage could resort to artificial insemination, but what about M same sex marriage?
Granted, accidental pregnancies cannot occur.

Whose "morality and virtue," T.C.? Some peoples' morality is based on doing good rather than harm to others, rather than blindly following rules written in an ancient book (or modern interpretations thereof).

man/boys? humans/animals? brothers/sisters?

Those are easy to take on it's so weird that straight people are the ones imagining this stuff. All the state had to do in the case was give ONE reason that furthers a state interest that gays shouldn't marry. The big bucks, high priced attorneys for the state could think of ONE reason.

With with this man/boy, human/animal, brother/sister baloney it's obvious. There's this long-standing legality called "informed consent" that is the basis of not just a marriage contract, but virtually every legal transaction on Earth. "informed consent" means you have to understand what you're signing up for. Tell me ONE animal that can consent to a contract of ANY kind. Show me ONE child who comprehends the legal responsibilities of marriage. And finally, maybe a brother and sister does can give informed consent, but their children are in serious danger of being born with life-long genetic diseases. That's why brother/sisters can't marry and in all state and not even first cousins can marry because of the real and present danger of genetically crippling any child born to the union. The child has rights, too, and a brother and sister can't trump those rights when they KNOW their union is virtually certain to produce a child with horrid birth defects.

What is it with you guys? You think no one can fulfill the court's requirement of providing a reason why you can't marry your dog, a child or your sister? It just make another stupid argument and illustrates the religious attack on reason and common sense. Rover can't consent to pay your credit card bills and children not only don't understand the responsibility, they can be fooled and manipulated very easily by an adult and EVERYONE know that except the people who post those idiotic argument.

Now. Since God didn't pay my taxes last year, he doen't have a say in my rights as a citizen. The court says tax-paying citizens have the same rights of all citizens and they don't place a religious requirement on marriage. So what's the problem?

"Whose morality and virtue"? Not mine! Didn't write 'em. Suggest you talk to the AUTHOR. (Opps, faux pas, libs don’t believe in prayer to a Sovereign God; just a prayer to the god of self). Just trying my level best, with HIS help, to stick to 'em!

If you're talking about that collection of books called the Bible, it sure looks to me like men wrote it (maybe a few women, too). I think a sovereign God could write a much better guidebook than that (but then all those clergypersons and scholars would be out of a job).

Even Jesus didn't give much credence to the "whatever the book says" philosophy. Your doctrine is more akin to the Pharisees.

well!yeseree, m-m, ff, whatever,... adoption agencys love it it when they come in!

Children adopted into same sex households are very happy and well adjusted.

Mea culpa! mea maxima culpa! I did not mean to evoke thin skin reaction to benign banter!

Jobs will be vreated in the state that the state has no money to pay for. When they flock here from other states I don't see what good that does for them when it is not valid in the state they live in.
