Denham recall brings Republicans together

State Sen. President Pro Tem Don Perata's decision to go after GOP Sen. Jeff Denham of Atwater in a recall election has at least accomplished one thing -- brought together a splintered California Republican Party. Republicans across the state are coming together to fight the recall in the mostly San Joaquin Valley Senate district.

The Los Angeles Times reports Republicans are organizing bus trips to the 12th Senate District so party faithful from around the state can walk precincts against the recall election. Republicans should be thanking the Democratic leader for helping to put their party back together in the Golden State.

Perata is after Denham because he voted against the budget last year. But the back story is Perata believes that the 12th District should be in Democratic hands because his party has a voter registration advantage. Denham won the seat in 2002 by edging out Rusty Areias, the former Assembly member from Los Banos. Denham was easily re-elected in 2006.

This recall is a bad idea. Denham shouldn't be recalled for voting against the budget. Besides, he is termed out in two years. This recall is another waste of taxpayer dollars.

This recall is going on because over 60,000 local voters signed a petition, and it won't cost the taxpayers one dime, and the Fresno Bee knows it...There is already an election June 3rd. Explain how its a waste of tax money please. Jeff Denham is just like Gray Davis...He never bothered to make any friends in our area and now he wonders where all his friends are. They have to bus in Republicans to walk precincts for him. Hilarious.
