I didn't need another reason to dislike the Dodgers, but they handed me a dandy one anyway.
One of the great thrills of childhood is crowding around the fence before the start of a game, hoping to get an autograph from a big-league hero or two. It seems the Dodgers agree, but only for kids from families that can afford box seats.
T.J. Simers of the LA Times offers this bit of news: The Dodgers have a new policy that keeps people from the box-seat area -- the only place most people can get close enough to get an autograph -- unless they are box-seat ticket holders. The rich get richer...
Reader Russell Wise e-mailed Simer:
"Then I saw kids turned back from that magic line between regular seat and box seat. I couldn't believe it, their parents couldn't believe it, and the whole time the privileged few, in the new box seats, got as many autographs and pictures as they liked. At that moment I actually questioned my Dodger loyalty."The Dodgers to me have always been about family and tradition. I never thought I'd see the day where a regular kid couldn't get an autograph at a ball game."
Apparently the Dodgers were persuaded to impose the new policy by complaints from box-seat ticket holders who don't like being jostled by the riffraff. I think whoever signed off on this nitwit notion ought to be shot with manure and hung for stinking. Happy 50th anniversary on the West Coast. You Bums.
(Thanks to Michael Lukens for the tip on this latest Dodger atrocity.)
Who cares about the Dodgers or their fans. Was T.J. in the closet as a Dodger fan when he was writing for the San Diego Union Tribune? The guy had little good to say about the home teams when he was there. L.A. dirtbag.
I would not support them if they treat children like that. Let all the rich folks fill their stadium. Just another example of being down on the disadvantaged. The price you pay to get into a game should come with an autographed photo anyway.
Once a Dodger Bum, always a Dodger Bum...I guess the Royal Blue is fitting for their royal fans.
