Sevag Tateosian, one of our regular letter writers, let us know (via a MySpace bulletin) that representatives from the city of Fresno and the Armenian National Committee will raise the United States and Armenian Flag at 9 a.m. today at Fresno City Hall in commemoration of the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide that began on April 24, 1915. All are invited to attend.

CHURCH GENERAL.JPGOur lead editorial in today's paper denounces the cowardice of the American government in refusing to acknowledge the Armenian genocide.

Tonight, our editorial page editor, Jim Boren, is speaking on the politics of the genocide resolution at an ecumenical service and program organized by the Armenian Church Interdenominational Committee. It will begin at 7 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, 2226 Ventura Ave.

Our government cowing down from Turkish threats is yet another example of our morally bankrupt state of affairs.

The shamless cowards in Washington should get some backbone and moral integrety, to do the right thing on this issue.

I am quite proud of the city for acknowledging this terrible series of events. Many lives were lost and recognition is important to the survivors and to the gerenerations to come.

I am hoping that Washington's ridiculous coddling of the Turkish government is one of the first foreign policy changes made by our next president. In addition to being immoral, it's embarassing! America's ethics overhaul needs to start with this issue.
