President George W. Bush is scheduled to endorse Republican presidential candidate John McCain this morning. But Bush's approval rating is very low, and some think that could drag McCain down. McCain clinched the GOP nomination on Tuesday.
Bush's popularity has plummeted, and while the president may help McCain among Republicans, the focus now for the Arizona senator must be on winning in November. That means appealing to all voters, not just conservatives.
So does Bush help McCain or hurt him in the general election?
I think the endorsement is something the Republican Party has to do.
After the 24 hour news cycle we will rarely see McCain and Bush sharing the same stage, unless Bush's approval ratings go up.
Again I don't think that a Bush endorsement will make a diff. People will vote for him because he is the Rep candidate.
