Daddy Bush lines up behind McCain

The Associated Press, citing anonymous Republican Party sources, says that former President George H.W. Bush is going to make a formal announcement endorsing Sen. John McCain in Texas on Monday.

Could the former president's blessing and the handshake from one-time chief rival, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney help persuade the party's more conservative members to loosen up? The current pres still hasn't formally endorsed McCain but he's expected to agree with this father's recommendation.

And what about bringing around conservative commentators like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter? AP reports that the president said, "I think that if John is the nominee, he has got some convincing to do to convince people that he is a solid conservative and I'll be glad to help him if he is the nominee."

Good luck with that. Bush may need to help himself with those commentators first.

It seems to me that everyone hates the Bush administration therefore they wouldn't be interested in someone that Daddy Bush and Baby Bush endorse.

Can you expound on your last statement-it leaves the reader wondering what you are trying to express.Former president Bush(the most qualified person to be president in my estimation) and his term's effectiveness were eroded by his pandering to moderates in the party and trying to get along with the left so his endorsement of "Little John" won't persuade true conservatives.Let the left take the country further left-not republicans.

Again I say it simply doesn't matter to me who endorses, because that has no bearing on what my decision will be. Many people on this blog have been so down on the Bush administation that I don't think the endorsement will matter to them either.

Gail's last sentence was vague at best-I was looking for what she meant by it.

Brian, what I meant by the last line is that conservative commentators on the extreme right have often criticized the president for being too moderate for their tastes.

That also is their beef with Sen. John McCain, so I am not certain getting the president's endorsement, if he does, will help McCain bring the far right to the polls in his behalf.

He needs someone else, someone with great influence and charisma, someone the far right really respects ... someone like . . . Brian!
