Leading the charge for change

One thing about schools; they're usually very good at awards ceremonies. Tonight, the tables are turned and the community will be giving awards to the schools for a change.

A significant reception will be held tonight at the Downtown Club that will take notice of the remarkable progress Fresno Unified has made since the dark days of 2005, when the state was threatening a takeover, music classes were dying and librarians were getting pink slips. A task force of citizens was charged with listing the schools' many inadequacies and it was not a happy picture.

Today, many of those challenges are being addressed in a serious way. And the same folks who pointed out the problems now want to be among the first in line to recognize the results. Good for them. The school district budget is much healthier, and now it's time to point out a few of the people who led the charge for change. Read today's editorial on the topic by clicking here.

Awards, awards-Everybody gets an award. What happened to just doing the right thing or maybe what is expected of you. I must deserve an award for something...The silence is deafening.

Curmudgeon of the Year?

I don't know why Brian thinks he should get an award but the teachers do deserve to be recognized for their teaching of our children, Yes it is their job but they have to do far more than that. They have to take more schooling to be able to teach in other languages and they often have to take on a parental roll as well as social worker looking for kids that are being abused so they can report that. They deserve to be awarded.

On behalf of fellow revolutionairies I accept this award as a symbol of not buying in to the socialist agenda.I want to thank the vision of Ronald Reagan, the truth telling of Rush Limbaugh,Victor Davis Hanson and the leadership of President George W. Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney. Most of all I want to thank my parents who gave me life, did not take any assistance fom the government and prepared me to be self reliant and productive by age 18.In closing I will borrow from Sally Fields' speech."The socialists don't like me-You really don't like me".That's an award in itself.
