Saving children from the brutal nightmare of 'tag'

Came across a story about an elementary school in Colorado that has banned games of tag among the kids. Seems that some of the kids felt they were being picked on in the games, so now running is permitted at recess only if it doesn't involved chasing.

Sigh. I wonder what school officials would think of some of the games we played as kids. Anyone remember mumbly peg? It involved a pocket knife, which most of the boys carried. Of course, then a pocket knife was regarded as a useful tool and not a murder weapon. Bring a pocket knife to school today and you'll learn just how heavy the weight of authority can be. And maybe that's for the best these days.

Mumbly peg could get a little complicated, but it sure was fun. Wonder if I even have a pocket knife any more?

I remember we use to have 50 yard races at the end of the year all the students lined up and ran to the finish line.

We had 1st 2nd and 3rd place ribbons.

First couple of years I didn't place so I pushed myeself even harder with the hopes of winning.

Granted that was 30 years ago, times have changed we have more overweight children so we have to be politically correct so we don't hurt any feelings . We have a sad case of an epidemic called obesity among children.

Maybe they can all sit in circles and throw a beachball to eachother and keep their dignity.

There is nothing more important in the childhood experience than a good game of tag.

Next thing you know there will be no recess. And just eat lunch at your desk and stair at the table.
