Toyota Prius: It's zippy too!

Bloggers have caught up with the same tidbit that caught my attention when I read the article about the arrest of Al Gore's son on charges of speeding and drug possession: A Prius can go 100 mph? Who knew? 05%202004%20Prius.JPG

NotronWest at Sweet! says: "I guess I need to re-evaluate the purchase of my Volkswagen Passat. 'Prius: Environmentally friendly and almost fast enough to get away from the police.'"

Certainly, my little Prius has never gone that fast. Doing so would go against the reason most people buy the Prius in the first place -- its fuel economy. Everybody knows that your fuel efficiency goes down if you're doing more than 55 mph.

I drive my husband nuts in my efforts to wring the best possible mileage out of each tank of gas. Is it really wrong for me to go 5 miles under the speed limit on the freeway, as long as I'm not in the fast lane?

YES, Lisa, it is horribly, terribly, bad Kharma inducingly awful for you to drive 5 miles under the speed limit if you're even near the freeway :)

Lisa: Great that you have a Prius. My middle daughter has one and loves it. We CAN do something about our environment. Today's heat tells us a lot about global warming. We have to start now. Good for you. And, yes, it is okay not to drive the speed limit -- but watch out for unruly folks passing you and making obscene signals. I have had a little of that doing the same.

I guess ignorance is bliss with the Green crowd. If it makes me feel good about myself then who cares about facts.Your not saving the earth or any money-fact.You are stimulating the economy though so... You Go Girl-at what ever speed makes you feel good about yourself.

Peak fuel efficiency for most cars is around 35 mph. I doubt driving a Prius, at any speed, is going to help much with global warming, but if you like them knock yourself out.

"I guess ignorance is bliss with the Green crowd. If it makes me feel good about myself then who cares about facts."

What "facts"? Are you still touting that very questionable "study" comparing the Prius to the Hummer?

If you're going to call people "ignorant," you should be prepared to back up your accusation.

And where is the proof that driving 55 saves gas? There isn't any, because it doesn't.
