Here's our latest Top 10 list. Add your own suggestions. . . Most of these ideas came from my colleagues.
Top 10 reasons that Fresno County's public works and planning offices are moving out of downtown
10. Convenient location for daily marching orders from developer.
9. Shorter drive to golf courses.
8. Giving sprawl a chance since hopscotch development hasn't worked out as well as planned.
7. Fancher Creek sounds more appealing than mayor's downtown "water feature."
6. Close to airport so Supervisor Perea and developer can quickly leave on junkets.
5. Fewer pesky homeless people asking for money.
4. Developer persuaded us that sprawl was good for the air.
3. City didn't offer supervisors any campaign contributions.
2. Can convert old planning space downtown into more jail cells.
1. It's Fresno County government; it doesn't have to make sense.
My colleagues offered some additional Top 10 items:
-- Haven't you heard? Downtown is thriving.
-- Free parking!
-- Want to take in the scents of nearby Gallo grape waste waft.
-- Somebody needs a reason to drive on the new portion of Highway 180.
-- Beautiful view of downtown federal courthouse in the distance.
-- Has enough open space for a "pool by Waterston."
-- Shoppers at the future Fancher Creek shopping center can stop by and pull building permits between Starbucks and the Pottery Barn.
-- "Fancher Creek" has the same initials as "Fresno County" - gotta love that, right?
-- Downtown revitalization is only a City problem. The name "Fresno" in "Fresno County" is simply historical coincidence.
--Better horse paths outside the City limits.
--We have to protect our County border from them City Fresnins!
--It's not in our geopolitical interest!
--It takes effort, well thought out planning, mutual partnership with another Government Office.
