Fresno school superintendent's letter
Michael Hanson, superintendent of the Fresno Unified School District, has written a letter to district employees laying out the education successes of the school system. You can read the letter here.
Now that the district is in contract negotiations with the teachers union, there will be a lot of charges and countercharges about district operations. This is the superintendent's view.

Coincidentally, there's an article on the SFGate site about teachers leaving the profession in droves, to the tune of 18,000 per year in California. Besides pay, one of the main factors cited in quitting or remaining in the profession was a feeling that the administrators were supporting them. That seems to be something that's been largely absent from Fresno Unified for a long time now. There seems to be a widespread lack of trust between administrators and teachers. Hopefully they can get that fixed, but these drawn-out contract negotiations certainly aren't helping. (Not blaming either side.)
