Will Fresno build a nuclear power plant?

Mayor, there was a proposal made last week to the Fresno City Council to build a nuclear power plant in Fresno. Do you think this proposal should be seriously considered? Do you support building a nuclear power facility in this community? If you support the idea of a nuclear power plant, do you think it should be located near the bluffs in north Fresno or on the Westside?

Mike Rhodes

Mike,

I believe nuclear power holds great promise for the entire San Joaquin Valley. We must find a way to become energy self-sufficient. High energy costs are crippling households throughout the Valley.

The nuclear power plant being discussed is very small. The size being discussed, which is small enough to operate a nuclear submarine, could provide enough power for the entire city of Fresno.

As for the Bluffs or Westside, it makes no difference to me since it is the safest source of energy around. Mike, by the way, how big is your back yard?

I strongly support the idea of a nuclear plant for Fresno. John Hutson tells me that a MUD will be needed to guarantee that Fresnans see lower electricity bills though. Are you aware of this and do you support it?

If you google "NRC and three mile island accident" you find an NRC Factsheet showing all the changes that were implemented by the NRC and the nuclear industry after Three Mile Island. I urge you to read it. It is very impressive.

The day Mike has anything good to say about the Valley, let alone the U.S.A. will really be something!! We've lost many people in coal mining disasters...not one in a nuclear accident. I am 100% in favor of nuclear power..especially after our July PG&E bill..and you can build it in my back yard!!!

thats the thing about nuclear plants...really Big backyards, how much well water are we talking about here anyway?and mayor autry, how can this source of energy be safer than, say,SOLAR energy.

Being in the Navy, I operate a Nuclear power plant on a submarine for a living. Its the most efficeint way to generate power available. With well trained operators and people who want cheaper electric bills backing up this project, I feel its a great step for Fresno to take!
