Mr. Mayor: Why doesn't City Council conduct its meetings in the evening? There's no way I can make a daytime meeting, and the council members get this "holier than thou" attitude, especially mine (District 2). They complain about the public not attending meetings, yet schedule them when the majority of the public can't. Paul Rete
Paul,
That's a pretty good idea. I would suggest you run it by the Council and see what happens.
A great idea!! I doubt very much if the mental midgets on the Council will consider it!! After all, after working some 80 hours per week ( as per Tom Boyajian) they need their rest!!
Actually we tried that. During last year's budget process we scheduled a budget hearing in the evening in each Council District.
The hope was that by bringing the City's budget process into neighborhoods, people would take the opportunity to see for themselves how their City Council worked and contribute their thoughts and ideas in what has to be the single most important thing we do.
After two meetings (at the Woodward Park Library and Fresno High School) we cancelled the rest and brought them back to City Hall. In spite of good publicity in the local media attendance was horrible and in fact we had more people attend when they returned to City Hall.
We do televise our meetings live and on tape delay on Comcast channel 96.
