Take your best shot

The Bee's human resources department just sent out notices that flu shots will be available to us Nov. 27. This is one smart innovation in the workplace. Inoculating employees without everyone having to make his or her separate doctor appointment at such a big expense is one way to keep health costs down and production up. Think of all the car trips, all the money, all the illness prevented from this one idea.

I'm very appreciative. Every big employer should offer such services to employees. Even if the employees shared the cost, it would easily pay off in the long run. If the equipment gets more portable with technology, wouldn't it be great to roll in a mammogram machine annually?

As to rolling in a mammogram machine any time soon, I'd see the flu bug to be more infectious issue for human resources Department and both men and women. Great idea though and maybe for good measure lthough a good massage therapist wouldn't hurt either. Sounds like a bit of socialistic medicine in nature but utilizing preventative medicine in any form is always good.

After working in the old Del Webb (AKA Plaza Building downtown) during flu season I let someone else in the elevators punch the buttons or used my mittens to do so. Just so many ways to pass germs in offices from multiple users at one desk or phone, or handling files, file cabinet drawers, break room fridge handle, or something as simple as a shared pen or keyboard.

Having human resources stepping up to cut those flu bugs off at the pass is a really great idea. I'm thinking though if they had in office parties on Mondays and not Fridays that may fix those sudden Monday morning cough and fever sick days.
