Loan defaults set record
The percentage of loans in foreclosure set new records in June, the national Mortgage Bankers Association says.
The association said more than 9% of all loans issued for one-to-four unit residential properties were delinquent or going through the foreclosure process.
"The national foreclosure numbers continue to be driven by the hardest-hit states continuing to get much worse," said Jay Brinkmann, the association's chief economist. "The increases in foreclosures in California and Florida overwhelmed improvements in states like Texas, Massachusetts and Maryland."
He said California and Florida accounted for 39% of all foreclosures started in the second quarter, and 73% of the increase between the first and second quarters.
