arrowIs camping out for chicken crazy? Maybe not.

CHICK-FIL-A.jpg

While working on today's story about Chick-fil-A opening, I talked to several people who planned to camp out all night for the restaurant's opening.

Fresno seems to love camping out for new things. Remember people lining up for the iPhone at Fashion Fair? The PlayStation 3 fiasco at Best Buy?

Every time I do a story like this, people shake their heads and say, "camping out for chicken (or whatever the product is)?"

The campers are excited about the product they're getting -- the first 100 people at Chick-fil-A got 52 coupons for a free combo meal. But I think a big part of the reason they're there is just for the experience, to have some fun with friends doing something kinda wacky you can tell stories about later on.

Take the folks at R.G.E. Fire Protection, who didn't make it into the story. At the encouragement of the boss, four of his workers took the day off and joined him to wait all day and night for Chick-fil-A.

Crazy? Perhaps. But those guys brought a craps table, a futon and a generator-powered TV. Middle of the afternoon while the rest of us are slaving away at work and they were hooting and hollering through the most fun craps game I've ever seen.

I'll bet they had a better day than most of us.
