arrowZork adds to wine bottle closure debate

newchard.jpgCorks and wine bottles went together unchallenged for ages.

Then came the screw cap, limited in early years to wines of lesser quality. Caps have since returned on premium vintages as have synthetic corks, all to ensure that the wine inside does not go bad.

Zork is a new entry trying to make an inroad into the industry. Its custom caps, or "closures," can be found on McLauren Vale, Australia-based Red Knot, imported by Seattle-based Precept Wine Brands. Red Knot officials said Zork "seals like a screw cap and pops like a cork" also allowing the wine to age.

Does it meet expectations? The winery and Zork have joined in a year-long promotion to vote for the product. Doing so will enter them, officials say, into a contest to win a trip to Australia. Go to redknotwine.com to enter.
