Gas boosts costs of pizza
That cheap night at home with a pizza and a six pack of beer just got a little pricier.
Me-n-Ed’s will begin tacking a $1.50 delivery fee onto every pizza it delivers beginning June 1.
The charge makes up for the ever-climbing gasoline prices delivery drivers pay to get to your door. Drivers are compensated for using their own cars, said Tom Ferdinandi, vice president of Milano, which owns Me-n-Ed’s restaurants. In the past, the restaurants could afford that compensation, he said, but now that the price of flour has tripled and cheese has doubled, they need customers to pony up for some of those fuel costs.
The delivery guy keeps the $1.50, he said.
He’s making out better than Pacifica Pizza drivers, who charge a $1 fee. Pizza Hut charges $2.50.
