arrowPoochigian gets Clovis educators' nod for Fresno County Supervisor

Fresno County supervisor candidate Debbie Poochigian is generating some support from her opponent's turf - the Clovis school system.

Although Clovis City Council Member Nathan Magsig graduated from Clovis West High School and has had a close working relationship with the Clovis school board, Poochigian recently picked up the endorsement of Clovis Unified Superintendent Dr. Terry Bradley, former Superintendent Dr. Walt Buster and all seven members of the Clovis school board.

Magsig said he's not sure why the school board and current superintendent are backing Poochigian, a businesswoman and community activist. But he joked that maybe he didn't get good enough grades in school.

"I just don't know what kind of thinking went into the decision they made," said Magsig, who has been endorsed by Clovis Unified's founding superintendent, Floyd "Doc" Buchanan.

The current Clovis educators said their support of Poochigian stems from "the close relationships she has maintained with the district" and her commitment to children's education.

Poochigian's daughter also teaches in the district.

Poochigian and Magsig are battling to represent District 5 on the Board of Supervisors. The district includes part of the city of Clovis, but as a county supervisor neither would have much to do with educational issues.
