TUCOEMAS offers students chance at scholarship
Tulare County high school students who aspire to become entrepreneurs have until Friday to apply for the TUCOEMAS Federal Credit Union Student Entrepreneur Scholarship.
The $1,000 scholarship will help a Tulare County high school senior or junior who has demonstrated an overwhelming entrepreneurial spirit pursue a college degree. It will be awarded March 6during the 3rd Annual Recognizing Excellence in Entrepreneurship Awards Breakfast at the Marriott Hotel in Visalia.
“We at TUCOEMAS are offering this scholarship because we believe in helping Tulare County students succeed,” said Dawn Bills, marketing manager of TUCOEMAS Federal Credit Union.
The scholarship offered in cooperation with The Allen Group, The Tulare County Economic Development Corporation and the Tulare County Office of Education, raises awareness of the role that the application of science, technology, engineering and mathematics plays in building entrepreneurship in America. Applicants must demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and initiative in their high school experience, such as starting his or her own business, participation in organizations such as DECA/Delta Epsilon Chi, Future Business Leaders of America and others.
To apply, students can download an application from the Tulare County Office of Education’s Web site at tcoe.org/STEMscholarship. Applications must be received by 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 29. In its 60th year, TUCOEMAS Federal Credit Union has four branches — two in Visalia, one in Tulare and one in Porterville — serving more than 36,000 members in Tulare County.
