What's next after Case was rejected for ARB?
The state Senate Thursday rejected the governor's appointment of Fresno County Supervisor Judy Case to the governing board of the California Air Resources Board. What are your reactions?
First, you should know that the governor now will have to name someone else from the board of the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District.
Many activists want to see the appointment of Councilmember Raji Brar of Arvin in Kern County. She is a first-year member on the Valley air board, and she has taken maverick stances against the majority. She emphasizes health care.
But other observers say it was a mistake to reject Case, who has been involved for many years in the battle for clean air. Her supporters say she has a balance of health and business perspectives -- three decades as a registered nurse as well as being part of a ranching operation in Fresno County.
Who should be appointed now? And what should be the agenda for the Valley's clean air quest? Tell us by responding to this blog.
There are 10 currently other choices from the Valley air district board.
They are: Supervisor Leroy Ornellas from San Joaquin County, Councilmember Chris Vierra of Ceres in Stanislaus County, Supervisor Tony Barba of Kings County, Councilmember Brar of Arvin, Supervisor Ronn Dominici of Madera County, Supervisor Mike Nelson of Merced County, Supervisor William O'Brien from Stanislaus County, Councilmember Henry T. Perea of Fresno, Supervisor Ray Watson from Kern County and Supervisor Steven Worthley from Tulare County.
