arrow How'd my fantasy football draft go? The sequel

It's Year Two of Will blogging about his fantasy football draft (in fact, it was a year ago today), so here goes ...

moss.jpg

With the sixth overall pick in Mike Oz's blogger league, the Willys select:

ROUND 1: Randy Moss (WR, Patriots)

-- OK, I'm over the Patriots cheating their way to a perfect regular season, and I'm tired of losing at fantasy football. My plan with the first pick was to either take one of the very top RBs (LT, AP -- both gone), one of the very top WRs (Moss, T.O.) or Tom Brady/Peyton Manning. It was between Moss and Brady, and I figured I could get my QB later.

ROUND 2: Michael Turner (RB, Falcons)

-- Halfway through the second round in a 12-player league leaves few premier RBs. But now I can keep tabs on my Bucs' division foe's new every-down back in a rebuilding year. Crossing my fingers for a losing season for Atlanta, and a lot of touches for the city's second-biggest Turner.

ROUND 3: Maurice Jones-Drew (RB, Jaguars)

-- I know, I know ... he's gonna share the load with Taylor, but again, need an RB who's gonna get me yards and we're already 30 players off the board.

ROUND 4: Plaxico Burress (WR, Giants)

-- I'm patting myself on the back with this one. My plan for wide receivers came to fruition in Round Four: pick the top option for a particular team, and the dude did just win a Super Bowl ring.

ROUND 5: LenDale White (RB, Titans)

-- This pick, on the other hand, not feeling too great about. Maybe it was Ed smirking that he wasn't going to be Tennessee's starter for long. Or when Ed (or someone else?) commented that he was overweight. But, needed an RB for my flex position, and I'm ... OK with this pick.

ROUND 6: Brett Favre (QB, Jets)

-- Yes. Yes. Yes. Holding off on Brady in the first round proved to be a good move. Couldn't believe he fell this far. We'll see what happens with his age, but I'm feeling prit-tee good about my team so far.

At this point, I lost track of who went when Wednesday night during the live draft at Victory Grill (appropriately named, if you ask me), so I'll just list the rest of my team by position ...

BACKUP WIDE RECEIVERS

Hines Ward (Steelers): Top-listed receiver on his team. Check.

Reggie Williams (Jaguars): Check.

Derrick Mason (Ravens): Check. Dang, I'm good.

BACKUP RUNNING BACKS

Ahman Green (Texans): Last starting back still there.

Michael Bennett (Bucs): I LOVE Earnest Graham. Hope to the end that he doesn't go down. But ... if he does, Bennett looked prit-tee good in preseason.

TIGHT ENDS

Jeremy Shockey (Saints): Second year in a row I picked Drew Brees' check-down option. Have a good feeling this former star is looking to shine again.

Tony Scheffler (Broncos): No idea who this guy is, but he was highest-rated TE in Round 15.

THE REST

Josh Brown (K, Rams): Indoors = no wind.

Matt Leinart (QB, Cardinals): A backup as my backup. Sounds good enough in the final round.

Tampa Bay (Defense): We're playing the Super Bowl at home, baby, and I'm benefitting from being a fan -- and a fantasy owner -- of the best defense in the league.

One word: championship.

Comments:

drop ahman green and pick up Chris Johnson, the other RB for Tennessee. I drafted Lendale White and then read all the reports that he's going to be sharing carries with Johnson. I was lucky because nobody had picked Johnson, and by the time I finally got him off of waivers, he's been added by as much as 80% of the teams playing fantasy. that made me feel a lot better, but you already have Turner and Drew-Jones, so you will probably be alright.

drop Lienart, and get Kurt Warner if still available. if there are better options out there at QB, pick them up. You don't know what you are going to get with Farve. But if Farve produces, you should be alright for the season at QB.

Derrick Mason, I like, but the QB situation there is horrid. But you are pretty much set at WR, so no worries there.

I think you did alright. keep us posted on how the season is going.

Nice draft, Will. Although normally I would say to take Brady, it looks like ti may have paid off with getting Favre, especially if he can keep Coles in there healthy... that sure would help MY draft! I started off with Steven Jackson, Maurice Jones-Drew, and big Ben Roth., and somewhere down the line I picked up Coles on the chance he and Favre light it up! GO BUCS!! WWTFSB37!!!!

By the way, this is using the new Google chrome browser and looks pretty good. Might be worth checking out.

Well, Will, it's okay. You have a gorgeous wife, some great friends, and a nice job.

You don't NEED a good fantasy football team to be a success in your life.

Which is a good thing, cuz brothah? This team ain't gonna do much for ya...at all.

hey, if you're going to post about the league here, i'm going to talk smack about your team.

first, did you even have a rankings list? moss at 6 is decent, but you're fooling yourself if you think turner was the best rb available with your second pick. i mean, he is an unproven starter. thomas jones, jamal lewis were both on the board. chris johnson, who is soon to take the ball out of bowling ball white's hands didn't get picked until the 8th round. kenny watson, who'll be splitting time just like turner went in the 15th!

you picked ahman green's corpse, before the texan's starting rb was taken, and five rounds before i took watson.

derrick mason as the top receiver for the ravens? who cares. they've got a no name qb, and a continually stagnant offense. that's like saying you've go the best boat with a hole in it.

and you picked a back up qb to be your back up. very appropriate.

In response to Ed: Ouch.

I'll refrain from smack talking until I see how my team performs because really, I haven't heard of some of my players. I'm so glad we're not playing for money.
