Backstory: Every day, when I look into The Bee's parking lot, I hope that the little Smart Car is parked next to the big ol' Hummer. I kid you not, every day. And today, my hopes were answered.

This just makes me so happy I'm posting another picture. This time from an above window.

You could fit like, three of those smart cars inside one Hummer! Awesome.

Why do I suddenly have the urge to get a few friends and pic up the smart car and put it on the lawn?
Posted by: Michael at August 4, 2008 2:57 PM
*chuckle* if you're going to pick it up - put it on top of the Hummer - greater impact!

on the good side? It's mike and sully from Monster's inc.
The bad side?
During the Eighties we had LOTS of problems with corvettes being literally 'run over,' by cars and trucks making turns (and not being able to see them,)
-At least these things you can see...
(sorta) cause they're
(sorta) tall...
Still?
I'd tell anyone who owns one of those things, the same thing I tell folks I sell bicycles to:
'...Think like a cockroach,' --whatever is happening out there? just avoid it, and hide under a refridgerator if you have to...
(also? -drink tons of espresso, and go to church... (alot.)

Just got back from three weeks in Europe. All over Greece and Italy we saw the Smart Car zipping by us. My 12 year old son and I were scamming about opening a Smart Car franchise in Fresno wondering whom we may get to invest. It's ideal!! So, who at the Bee owns it? I think the local BMW dealer also has one - it's a BMW enterprise. In addition to the Smart Car, there were many other styles and makes one never sees in the US. We own a Yaris (the four door style) and it was the number one selling car in Europe for years (the two door) before it was brought, finally, here.

There must be some kind of metaphor about the newspaper industry in that picture. I'm just too lazy and don't care enough to think of it.

That looks exactly like the Hummer I saw at the Grape Tray that was parked, not only in 1.5 parking spaces, but a handicapped parking space, no less.
Beautiful.

@Erik
The Hummer represents the Bee in print: big, unnecessary bells and whistles, negatively impacts the environment, cumbersome to lug around, reliance on dated/negative archetype (outlaw - if it bleeds it leads), supremely irrelevant
The Smart Car represents the Beehive: right-sized, appropriate bells and whistles, environmentally responsible, easy to lug around, positive archetype (artist-scientist), topically relevant
I would like to hear from others as well. I think we could have a field day with the Hummer vs Smart Car / Fresno Bee vs Beehive metaphor...

I drive a Toyota Camry. What does that represent?

[Chuckling at Heather's Goofus and Gallant comment].
I bet the SmartCar and the Hummer are really the best of friends.

'...Hummer is like Bee, Smart Car is like the BeeHive...'
...doood...
have you SEEN the pictures on Beehive of late?
We gots us a lot MORE Hummers than Smart Cars
(Though I drive a jetta, and an F-250?
Even on a freakin' bicycle, I'm FAR from 'smart-car.'
I readily admit...)
No comment on 'hummers,' in the more feminine sense, (though that too has been subject of late...)
(And you know, there are kits out there where you can mount a fiberglas 'Hummer,' body on a Blazer/Suburban Chassis? and have all the fun (and obnoxiousness,)
--for a fraction of the weight and cost...)
(Spotted Owl: Tastes just like chicken!)
