Wabo Watch: Day One
Does this look like a place that's supposed to open tomorrow?
We'll check back with Fresno Wabo on Tuesday, continuing our round-the-blog coverage of whether Fresno Wabo will indeed be ready to serve up tequila shots and butt rock.
One thing that was new today was this Cabo Wabo signage.

Comments:
We can all tailgate with a bottle of tequila in the parking lot!

Isn't that the backside of the restaurant?
It's hard to tell sometimes. I remember going through The Public House about a week before it opened and it looked like they had a long way to go but they made it.

what, just because it doesn't look like they have a parking lot? and there is tons of industrial trash around the joint? totally looks ready to me. sam is just trying to make it look as close to the original as possible.

@adam: It might be the back, but it's where all the signage is .... and yeah, it might be more ready than it looks. But tomorrow?
@bino: That's a great idea. I'm thinking a tequilia sit-in until Sammy opens the place.
@ed: touche.

Tailgate in the parking lot? Where IS the parking lot? I'll be there Labor Day weekend, if it's opened by then...

I think that is the front of the building, the tower structure on the left looks like an entrance. Besides why pay a lot of money for a mural that size only to have people not see it when they enter?
I was at Public House on Saturday and Cabo didn't look done to me.
Count me in on the sit in. I'll bring the margarita mix and ice.

I've always seen it as the backside and the parking lot in front of it and the vodka restaurant to be the front of those businesses. I think whatever entrance is near that tower is probably the kitchen.
It makes sense to me to point the big advertizing mural at the freeway and the upcoming theme park.
But I could be waaaaay wrong.

I had the idea to call a blog "Countdown to Cabo"... I get home and BAM, there's at least two ways to do this, lol.
Well, I say that since nobody seems to know what the inside looks like, we can only speculate about the appearance of the outside... which may have nothing to do with them opening.
I wouldn't put it passed them to open, even if the outside is incomplete. I don't think I would do something like that, but businesses have been known to open that way, as long as they believe the business itself is functional.
I'm on this Wabo Watch tho. I'm gonna go out tonight and see how late and how hard the crew is working. Eh, no I'm not... but, it would be interesting to hear a few arguments amongst workers in crunch time.

Ugh... do we really need a Cabo Wabo here? Really?? Its amazing to me that we are up in arms about 4 dollar gas prices but we leap at a chance to pay 8 bucks for what amounts to about 75 cents worth of tequila. I just bought a kegerator so basically I don't need to come out of my house... ever again.

Just a note.....one post on Redrocker.com said that Sammy announced Saturday night at the Tahoe concert that this location would not be open untl Sept!!! Anyone hear this from Mr. Barbis???

@The Suppressors: Do we need it? No. But I'm all for another place that will have live music. Aren't you guys?
@lgr: I have got a return call from Barbis yet, but I did go out there this morning and talked to one of the designers. Two more weeks, he said. Check out my latest post for more info.

I don't get what is so big about this particular opening. Can someone fill me in what makes this opening any more special than any of the other 50 restaurants opening in the Fresno/Clovis area? I know Sammy Hagar blah blah blah, but what makes this place so much better than all the other restuarants?

My mistake. I didn't know they were gonna be featuring live music. In that case, lets open 10 of them!!

any chance this will be open by the time my wife and I come in September?

@jhaack: In my most recent post, I reported that the new date is Aug. 26. Guess it depends on what day in September you're coming.
