arrow This will lead to last candidate standing

US-ELECTIONS-OBAMA.JPGMcCain 2008.JPGIt seems Presidential nominees Barack Obama and John McCain will appear in humorous campaign advertisements during Thursday night's series finale of the NBC summer flop "Last Comic Standing."

Neither Obama nor McCain jump to mind when I think of great comedians. They provide a lot of fodder for real comedians. That's not the same as trying to be funny. Of course they do have experience. Both appeared on "Saturday Night Live." Maybe that will get them through the commercials.

The good news is if they are bad, no one will see the commercials. A fist fight in the parking lot gets more viewers that the NBC competition.

If the advertisements are funny, it could open up a whole new campaign strategy.

Imagine Obama on "Million Dollar Password." He is getting clues from Rob Schneider. Schneider offers, "Coins. Panhandler. Cup." Obama shouts "Change." Then Schneider gives the clues, "Baby. Diaper. Soiled." To which Obama shouts "Change." Finally Schneider says, "Tire. Nail. Flat." And Obama leaps to his feet as he shouts "Tax breaks."

Can't you see John McCain twirling across the floor as one of the contestants on "Dancing With the Stars." He took the role on the competition show when he had to pass on "Driving With the Stars." NASCAR rules have drivers making left turns around the track. McCain would only go right.

It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to see the candidates on "High School Musical: Get in the Picture." McCain could be cast as the stern history teacher who starts his lectures with, " Today we will talk about the Civil War. War? That was no war. If you want to talk about a real war then let me tell you about Vietnam.

You have to wonder what Simon Cowell would say after Obama auditions for "American Idol." Cowell might offer, "'You call that singing. I have heard filibusters that weren't as flat or boring."

Network executives would even create new shows for the candidates. Imagine programs like "I Survived an American Presidential Campaign," The Odd Couple: 2008" and "Big Brother: I Really am Watching."

But the ultimate television show for the pair would be "Survivor." Put them on an island and let Americans vote for the winner. You would certainly get more votes than in a Presidential election. And the money for all the voting could help pay the National Debt.
