August ArtHop is hot, hot, hot
And not just because your very cranky steering wheel tried to burn your hands. There's an interesting array of ArtHop shows to see tonight. Beehiver Felicia Matlosz gave us a rundown in Sunday's Spotlight section.
There's some other ArtHop news to report. Stalwart participant Glen Delpit, who has been on the ArtHop tour for the last six years in the Fresno High/Tower area (and whose work "Autumn" is shown above), has moved downtown to the heart of the Cultural Arts District at 1753 Van Ness (Van Ness and Amador), directly across from Bill Bruce's studio and one block north of Arte Americas. He writes:
Next door to me is the Roger Perry Studio, and although it is a recording studio it will be showing art work every Arthop (this month Shannon Johnson will have work there) and also presenting live music.
The Cultural Arts District is starting to come alive (we're working on banners for the streetlights) . There's Arte Americas one block south, and 1 block behind us on Fulton is the Pearl Building, and 3 blocks southwest is the Broadway studios -- all within a very short walking distance, and of course the Met when it gets underway is just a block away. away. No longer is Bill Bruce an oasis on the north end of Van Ness. So, while there is a great deal at the other end of Van Ness with Fig Tree Gallery (which Bill and I are both members of) and Gallery 25 and Corridor 2122, there is now something happening at the north end too. We hope you'll take the opportunity on Arthop to stop in and say hello and see what's taking place in the Cultural Arts District.
Sounds great, Glen. The more bustle, the better. You're definitely on my list.

Comments:
I had a great time at Arthop last night.
I hopped with my big sister--she'd not been to an Arthop before. She loved it. Bill Bruce's, Scats on the Sly@Fulton'sFolly, Suicide Lounge @Ashtree Roger Perry's, Glen Delpit's new digs, Broadway, SouthofMono, Spinner's Records, Arte America, we were alll over the place hopping our hoppers off.
----My sister was gobsmacked at how much was going on, all the music, art, folks out and about....
--Brings up that Great Divide bandied about in the Loosing Our Starbucks post above-----yes, it's a generalization, and no, I'm not *demonizing* our friends to the North---but due to geography and life-style, a great many of folks who WOULD be interested in the Great Cultural Goings-On in the Downtown/Tower area----are just way outta the loop.
My sister asked "How does one know about all these things going on."---I mentioned "7", Mindhub, FresnoFamous.
---and all of these are great unite-ers, and supporters of the "scene"--but how do we REACH these folks Beyond the Great Divide?
We ran into RogueFestivalManBrad at one of the galleries and he asked if my sister was from around here. She said, "No, I'm from out of town".[She lives near Woodward Park]. Kind of funny;kind of not.

Blake, Glad to see you at Ashtree last night, nice to have met your sister and helped her into our world. We always have a lot of fun at our place and welcome our regulars along with newcomers from far and wide.
Thanks to Suicide Lounge again for their great music!
Having now heard their version of "Why don't you Do Right" (the Jessica Rabbit song), I look forward to seeing and hearing them again for the full effect.
Felicia, Thanks again for the mention of my art show!
