arrow 360 Degrees of Fresno: Seriously, when is Sky Room opening?

skyroom.jpg

YET A THIRD UPDATE: A call placed to the Holiday Inn today turns up the sad news that the Sky Room will not open until late September, possibly even October. Apparently, the railings on the outdoor balconies are not up to code, and instead of opening the bar and keeping people inside, the Sky Room is "just not opening at all," according to the front desk clerk.

By then, you'll have to leave work early in order to watch the sun set over Fresno with a glass of wine in your hands, but I'm sure it will be worth it.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Looks like the Sky Room will not be opening for another couple of months, according to the nice woman who answered the front desk telephone when I called this evening. Stay tuned!

UPDATE: Now with video that actually plays! Thanks, Mike Oz.

Original post:

Recently, Beehiver Felicia Matlosz posted about Sky Room, the soon-to-be-opened bar that sits atop the newly opened Holiday Inn in Downtown Fresno. This week, we took our trusty little video camera to the impressively large space that offers panoramic views of our fair city.

The quality of the video isn't fantastic, but you can still see how much of Fresno is visible from the rooftop bar (closer to 270 degrees than 360, but 360 makes for a better blog post title). To borrow a phrase from a couple of local podcasters, the view looks good from here, Fresno:

We're told the Sky Room will officially open for business in mid-June, and that once everything is in place, patrons will actually get to step outside and enjoy the weather from nine stories up.

It seems like Sky Room is going to be a very cool place to grab a drink. Here's hoping the overall experience (music, customers, drink prices) lives up to the location's promise.

Comments:

Daring of them to allow drunks to step outside - that'll probably last a week.

Place looks cool though, can't wait to make a jackass of myself in a new bar.

I'm actually thinking this, along with the new "BislaOnTheRocksEuroTrash" will be 'visit once' places.

I absolutely can't see the 9th floor view-spot being for much more than date-night or curiousity locals. Holiday Inn travelers, however, should really enjoy it.

I'm hearing rumors that the new Brillos or Bennys or whatever On The Rocks is about to become is planning on charging like $35 dollar cover charges (or $25, I've also heard).

MikeOz, any follow up to your 'Seven' story?

$25 for a cover?!? they better at least have some sort of 'exotic' entertainment, if you know what i mean. and i'm sure you do.

As I made the case once before, even the gentlemen's clubs in Fresno are cheaper than the uppity nightclubs -- $25 at City Lights get you in, a lapdance and a drink.

Back in the day I threw parties with Mykal Powell and DJ Bradley in the Skyroom called Skylab. We got the boot after a couple of drunks went out on the balcony and threw ashtray's over the railings. You'd think grown folks would know better.

I spent many really fun evenings in the bar back when the hotel was a Hilton. There was also a great bar downstairs off the lobby. The good ole days.

I went to the SkyBar a few times for their happy hour, it was great right after it rained you could see the mountians on both sides of the valley, from that penthouse bar.

there used to be a list of best happy hours in Fresno you can find the links but they are not archived anymore.
