arrow The "Scrubs" secret is finally revealed (not really)

Last year, when it looked like "Scrubs" was coming to an end on NBC, executive producer Bill Lawrence made a promise. He swore that before the series came to an end he would reveal the name of the character played by Neil Flynn. Flynn has only been known as Janitor since the comedy series launched.

The reveal never happened. ABC stepped up and ordered at least one more season of "Scrubs." Those new episodes will begin airing in the fall. And so it looked like the Janitor's real name would remain a secret.

That changed Wednesday. Flynn and the "Scrubs" gang showed up at the Television Critics Association meeting to talk about the move to ABC. That's when Flynn revealed his character's real name.

"I can tell you right now. It's Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate. There. End of mystery," Flynn said.

Sadly he was kidding. Flynn explains that's the name he used to call his imaginary enemy when he was a kid. McFate was "a full grown mountain man" who lived under Flynn's bed when he was a child. Again he was kidding. Then he said the name might be from an obscure Dr. Seuss piece.

Either way, it is not the Janitor's name. And Lawrence is holding to his promise the name won't be revealed until the show comes to an end. He didn't even feel compelled to reveal the name in an episode that already was shot in the Bahamas where the Janitor weds Lady.

There had been some speculation the Janitor's name would end up being Neil Flynn. That goes back to an episode of "Scrubs" where Zach Braff's character noticed that an actor in the movie "The Fugitive" looked a lot like the Janitor. And that character in the Harrison Ford movie was played by Flynn.

Flynn says he feels that would not be the payoff fans of the show would want. In the same breath he said he has no idea exactly what name would make all of the fans happy. For now, Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate seems to be out of the running.
